I'd suggest asking your dispatcher, and giving them a 2 week notice.

I'm def not doing that with Werner my buddy did that and they sent him 2 states away from home and told him to go to the terminal when he got there they fired him and had to find his own way home

Document everything to, with pictures of qualcom, cell phone, etc. Especially when the dispatcher tells you where to leave the truck. You want that documented in case he denies telling you that.
One job I quit, I went to a terminal of my choosing & personally carried the keys inside to the dispatcher, after cleaning out the truck. Document everything. -
Ahh I got ya good tip thanks a lot, I just am not asking them tho because Werner has been known to strand their drivers far from home and i don't need that headacheChinatown Thanks this.

Step 1. Ensure you have a SOLID orientation date scheduled with another outfit before you turn in trk.
Step 2. Take photos of condition of trk upon turn-in with documentation.
Step 3. Determine the length of time between turn-in and new orientation date (Can you survive a week or more without a paycheck ?)
Step 4. TURN IN TRK TO APPROVED LOCATION BASED ON ABOVE. -
Ive got the first three taken care of just gotta get 4

Use your Qualcom to communicate with dispatch as much as possible. If you wind up having to go over someones head, it's easier for them to deny anything that took place during a phone conversation. The Qualcom, will give you much better documentation. Also, don't delete ANYTHING on your Qualcom during this time.
No matter how good your relationship is with your dispatcher, DO NOT TRUST THEM when you're leaving the company. -
I would think putting in 2 week notice would still be best just CYA
as for getting stranded they have no obligation to get you back home when you quit. you cant expect them to allow you to drop there truck off in a trailer/drop yard. did they make you pick your truck up from a drop yard? some how i think not.Last edited: Jun 24, 2013

Most of the time they will want you to turn the truck in where you got it at. They are def not responsible for your way home if you quit. What you can do is have the next company you are going to work for send you a bus ticket from wherever you are turning your current truck in at and head straight to orientation from there, I did that before. Just dnt drop off the truck at any drop yard or unapproved location or you will get abandonment on your dac and you won't get a driving job again. It is always good to make sure you have money set aside for a bus ticket and to hold you until you get on with another company.
