Do oil field companies prefer for u to have OTR experience or just any kind of line hauling? I have an opportunity to go OTR or go haul farm produce which will be processed in the same city I'll be hauling from. What do u guys think?

I believe most companies require OTR along with the proper endorsements.
Tynom Thanks this. -
Hey Tynom-How are you?The easiest solution to this is call a half dozen companies and ask.I work for Big Star Crude Co in Dilley,TX.Some drove OTR,some drove local.I'm one of the few with any form of tanker(gas/diesel for four plus year)experience and lots of OTR.I don't think it helped getting hired.
Some things you can do is get very good at everything involved with driving a truck.Make your good better and your better best.Pre and post trips,backing,turning.Everything.Whatever you do,i hope it works for you.Personally, everything being equal, stay local.Stay home.A lot less stress for you.Take care.BrianTynom, abbeyroad64 and Logan76 Thank this. -
So hard to know what opportunities will come your way. The best way to be prepared is to be successful at what your doing now.
And always keep your eyes open. Good luck in finding your next opportunity.
And very good advice from Pete Moss. -
Hi Pete Moss, does Big Star Crude Co.hiring now? whats the pay?Local/regional(water/crude oil)
-
Hey cheetah9-How are you?Yeah, they are hiring. It's local south Texas.About halfway between San Antonio and Laredo.Crude oil hauling only. They pay barrel pay-30 cents a load is about $55 then mileage at $1 a loaded mile.No waiting, unloaded miles or unloading pay.So far,two months,it's ok.
You might look at Chesapeake. They own Oilfield Transport Solutions and a few other companies.OTS has crude oil and water trucks.Same area.We are on a four on two off with the option of working the fifth day. They have five on two off, five on three off and pay by the hour.Plus a decent benefit package. If there is anything else i can throw my two cents into, let me know.Take care.Brian -
Thanks Brian, sounds great,do I have to relocate or they utilize man camps/housing?
-
Hey-As i understand,Chesapeake does have a man camp on-site.I don't know any specific details.Big Star does not.You are on your own there.Places to stay down there are not cheap.I'm fifty miles from the yard.Others live in San Antonio. That makes for almost a hundred mile one-way commute.Take care.Brian

Chesapeake OTS seems to have pretty decent equipment from what I have seen.
