Being on the road and not seeing home much, it would seem to me that having internet service available would be paramount. From other threads, it does not appear that TS wifi service is reliable. I would like to be able to have the ability to get online to check email, visit forums like this one, upload photos to Flickr, pay bills, or just surf and read news and whatnot at various web sites. Also, I would imagine Google Earth would be an invaluable tool for truckers as well. It would seem to me that mifi would be the way to go. Is this what most drivers utilize for their service? Do you use your phones for the hot spot, or a mifi dongle separate from the phone service? How much should I expect to spend on internet service using mifi?

I use a Mefi jetpack device from a company called Millenicom (Verizon reseller). About $70 per month for 20 gigs of Verizon 4g. NOTE: While the "unlimited" Sprint offer they have might look attractive, the network is very limited in footprint and the dongle you have to use has very poor reception in my experience. Good luck, Jim

Anyone use it for nexflix?, ive been curious to know how much bandwith a few hours of netflix would suck up on one of those plans

$60 at Verizon. Netflix will consume it up fast. We turned to the Pilot WiFi to watch our shows. We buy the DVDs on sale at Pilot or Wal-Mart for movies.

also do other truckstops like ta and loves have this wifi you speak of? -
yup id say all truck stops have it by now except for some of the mom and pops have wifi pilot/flying j u can get online and before u can search it'll ask u how u want to pay u can either buy for the hour the day or month and it will be loaded on ur pilot points card and u can use it at any pilot/flying j in the country same goes for ta/petro.
now bear in mind it does work in the truck but usually the reliability of it is terrible usually best service is inside but it still can be slow and plus NO porn!!! while ur inside hahatexasbigbird54 and Diab33tus Thank this. -
I use my Verizon Motorola DROID Razr as a hotspot. You have to watch the data, and streaming just eats it up too fast. I like the Sprint idea of unlimited data, and an O/O I know said he never had trouble, but I like the Verizon coverage. Maybe Verizon will go unlimited one day. We can dream, right?
