Sounds that easy but it's not. I have to be here when it snows, cant wait for the weekend, It's a long driveway. If it's raining when I come home I cant mow, it's a big yard. It's why I'm home now, I was doing otr over this past winter. I soon found that with otr and the home, one had to go. I left the company I was driving for cause they had me sitting 48 or more hours most every weekend, not at home. The last sit was from Friday noon till monday noon in Allentown PA. I only had less than 10000 miles in 5 weeks out and then sit 3 days?, I had enough and left.
I live in south eastern NH.
anybody know about Smith Transport out of Pa.

We rarely sit, and NEVER that type of duration
-
Also, on the verge of sounding rude, can't expect to be a driver AND home all the time...unless local obviously
-
On NE REGIONAL acct. Odds are fair you could be thru house often enough to take care of maintenance. May only be long enough for a dot break or a couple hour pass thru....

I didnt just go out and get my cdl. I was doing part time equipment maintenance for a small paving company. He wanted a guy who could drive his truck and pull the tag and it required a cdl-a. Also someone to labor as well. He asked me if Id be interested and I jumped on it. At the end of the season I thought about otr just to see if Id like it and to say I did it. But most locals around here want 2+ years before they will hire me. I only have a year total. Thats why Im thinking of going back out.

I've heard that for many years about local companies

It's an insurance thing i'm told.

Ok I always wondered lol

Ok, I rather ask a driver than a recruiter, you are a driver?. I am looking at Smith and have even before I left the other company. How well do they run you? Can I have a power inverter? How good is theyre maintenance dept? Do you haul reefers? Are you given a specified route or choose your own? Can you fuel anywhere or do they have a network? Will I need a TWIC card?
Story; One day I was thinking what truck would I own if I was to buy one. Well after a couple days I decided it would be a Freightliner Coronado. I have driven a few trucks but like the Freightliner because of the cab head room. And the Coronado because it has a long nose and it has stacks. Then one day a Smith truck passed me and it was a Coronado, WOW. Now I know its not likely they will ever assign me one of those but, maybe at some point if Im a good boy and stay a long enough time .
Thanks for any info you can give me. -
That's a mouthful.... where to start.....
If you read past posts, youll see im a driver. Been here 8 yrs come October.
They try to run us in our comfort range for miles as loads & hours permit..
No reefers
Designated fuel stops per load
Inverter yes, generally not needed as ALL our trucks are equiped with full system APU's including HVAC and 110v 3kw generator.
NO TWIC & NO PORTS
Maintenance is good, but Pa terminal takes forever (and twice as long to get an appt)
Coronado.... its possible to get an older one if available. But those will be phased out soon i think, if you are REALLY GOOD you can request a NEW truck within a couple years or so depending on status of current truck and what's available.
