I'll second that! 63 sucks. My truck will do 75 at 2400 rpms. I need to get some taller rubber or some longer screws.

Man,2400...yikes! Mine runs out at 99 mph at 2100 rpms. I have pushed her to 2150 a few times....

I run 9 trucks dropped the speed in the trucks from 75 to 70. I am saving $15,000 a year in fuel alone. That is $135,000 a year in fuel alone. Not to mention the other savings with maintenance costs. That's a new truck. The drivers get rewarded by new and better equipment. I'm thinking of cutting the trucks back to 68 to save more.

lol! Well......it is not slow by any means....:biggrin_25524:
The old rev limiter kicks in at 2150 on these ISX motors.

Depending on the engine and gearing you can set them back to a point where fuel savings starts getting worse plus you have grumpy drivers.
70 is a decent speed that they can actually still pass many of the mega-fleet trucks, and still live with the slower speed.

With my ISX running 70 verses 75 is only about .3 mpg.
It sounds like you have a good many trucks so it all adds up.

Ahh 2400 rpm--the good ol days! LOL--when a gallon of fuel was less than a draft beer! 4:11 rears and a Ten Speed--400maxidyne turning 2650 to the floor whoop-whoop--LMAO
Anyway after reading and mostly ignoring this thread--Im glad to see a few folks here having an honest discussion about modern day trucking and $4+gallon fuel--and I always find it interesting that for the most part--the drivers complaining about their trucks not going fast enough are almost NEVER the ones reaching into their BILLFOLDS--for THEIR creditcards--to pay for it!
    Just sayin......

everything you mentioned is predicated by the insurance companies. Without these preset limitations, many companies would not be able to be insured by their current carrier and would have to pay a much higher rate. This is a sad, but true reality of the industry. Haven't you noticed any new dot regulations ? These too have been fueled by the insurance companies through PACs to regulate everything to be the driver's responsibility and fault. Of course they do NOT get paid by the mile while they are trying to get legislation pushed through.

63 in the middle lane no less! Of course it's usually a Comcar truck.
