Kenan Advantage training

I thought about asking some of the Kenan drivers I see at the loading racks, but with that attitude, I just can't find it in my heart to do so.

I don't know about the training. But I have heard the hours are brutal and the pay is lower than its competitors. Of course you can find that just looking around these forums! Good luck.

 

I have been with Kenan (KAG West) since February of last year. I can tell you this. I love the job and I am not going anywhere any time soon. The training was about 3 weeks long. There is alot to take in. For me, most of my previous experience is in either Food Service Delivery or Long Hauls. I was looking for something I could do that wasn't as physical as my previous jobs. I injured my back and blew out my hip doing the food service deliveries. So, this was perfect for me. In all honesty, the hours are not as bad as some here are saying. I work a 6 days on 3 days off rotation. The checks fluctuate a little bit because of that. But, I average about 50-55 hours a week. And the pay is actually about even with all the other companies when you take into account benefits and such. I love that this job is relatively stress free. I don't take my job home and there are no egos among management and other drivers. I am sure this depends on location. Usually, anyone who comes in with a ego or power trip they are quickly escorted out the door. Most of management and dispatch were also drivers. So, when I have a complaint they know exactly where I am coming from.

The training is all about learning the correct way of doing things. Establishing a routine. Getting certifications at the different racks that included loading and unloading and some classroom time. Just take it all in. Takes notes if you need to and ask questions. When I started I met a couple drivers who are in their mid 70s and thought. If they can do this I can do this. In our division our oldest driver is 76. I have been more of a lurker here. But, if you have any more questions feel free to ask.
