I am looking for a long wheel base tractor to carry long length without overhang. Can you give me some advise as to where to look for one to purchase or whether to buy a regular and have it stretched. Any info on where to get this job done and average cost. Thank you.

Yea I can get an old cab over with about a 320" wb. 60ft I beam would fit no problem. Good luck turning a corner though.

The long wheelbase rigs are comfy, but I see those guys slamming curbs on right hand turns all the time.

Yea so is the wheelbase worth tearing up tires. My truck turns the equivilent of a 290 I just get used to riding a curb every once in a while or rolling trailer tires over curbs ain't much else you can do.

Search the forum and there are several threads that discussed stretching wheelbase. Most quotes were in the 4 to 5 grand range. I think that there are varying state rules about front overhangs but maybe you've already researched that where you plan to run. The swing when you turn will be tremendous. One time when I was a kid I hit another trailer in a truck stop when I had a long overhang on the front of the trailer. Another friend had a road milling machine on with the ejection conveyor over the cab and hit a trailer in a truck stop when turning knocking a hole in it and tore it open. He is no dummy with many years of OS/HH experience. My point is to think long and hard about the practicality of it in order to save some permit money.

Lots of long wheelbase tractors can be had out of California, '90s-era Freightliner cabovers that were doing precisely what you are looking to do. They can't hold onto them because of emissions regulations. A buddy of mine just got his hands on a 290-inch wheelbase cabover Freightliner. S60 Detroit, 13-speed, and 3.90s in immaculate condition. I think he paid $25,000 for it, and it was well worth every penny.
