New to the board & already liking it a lot.

I'm 22 & looking to get into trucking around April, but I'm not sure who I should start with. I have been told FFE is a really good place to start & I have a friend who knows people with the company, but I have also looked at Central & have liked what I have seen. One thing being that I have seen on here that Central will let you have riders as soon as you are done training, I don't know if any other company does that or not.

If you know of any better starter company's I'm all ears.

I thank you for any advice you guys & gal's can give.

Why do most all Newbs go straight to the mega carriers for a job? Won't any smaller carriers around your parts hire a newb? Worth looking into perhaps?

I was pointed in that direction by two trucking friends I have, they both told me it would be better to start with one of the big time carriers & run a few years to get some seat time, then go with a smaller company that will treat me better.

Many times it is because they hire straight out of Truckers Schools.
as for the answer for our Newb's question..... Don't do it if you like other things. It is a lonely life. I myself like it. unless I am in a wind storm in WY on I 80. then I hate it.

I know, but I have always been a bit of a loner so the loneliness shouldn't bother me much.

After reading around here on the board it looks more like I will be heading to Watkins/Shepard, I have REALLY liked what I have seen posted about them.

Okay, I get it now fellas, thanks for enlighting me on the ways of hiring newbs these days. Too bad the mega carriers seemingly have exclusive kontrol of newbs getting into this sport. There are some very fine small trucking firms out there. Sadly their insurance providers are holding them hostage, obviously.

    Good luck Brickman81.
