I dunno I will have to get back to you on that one. That's another thing I will have to factor in.

A 97 is too old. Find a better more economical truck. Like a freight liner unless you're a Peterbilt guy only.

I have always had good luck with Peterbilts. Yeah the fuel mileage isn't as good, but they seem to save me in the break down costs. I know I will eat that for saying that, but its been true so far. I have drove Detroit with series 60 and people seem to do ok with them. I buy my last truck has a Detroit Series 60 in it and the SOB starts knocking like a son of a ##### so now im out of a truck and im not putting 20,000 plus into a 00 Volvo. That would put me at almost 29,000 in that truck. I could buy that Pete, or some very nice trucks for that amount of money. Nothing great, but be a pretty decent truck.

people seem to want the older trucks. and people would rather dump 20g into a motor.

but as much as some of you rave about buying older trucks. you've bought yourself a new truck buy the time you finally get that old thing to stay on the road. cuz i've seen a lot of people put a ton of money into them old things.

but, i gotta say. seeing some of them really old classics all fixed up shiney and new. looking REALLY good.

I agree with you on everything and that makes sense, but honestly the truck I have now I would rather have a couple year older truck than what I have now. The care on this truck has been rough. The only reason I bought it is cause I only paid 5,500 for it. They even had the air dryer bypassed I mean it was horrible!!! messed with the ECM etc...

IMHO--Depnds ALOT on WHAT u are going to do with it---I personally am VERY fond of and earlier 379(pre 01)when they made the first interior changes--but that isnt really a reason to buy one--the price isnt bad--someone mentioned 400k on rebuild--but I didnt see that in the ad--that would make a big difference--also--how many HANDS have been on the wheel? I can show you a couple of 98-99s--that are worth 2-3x that because the same older individual has been the only one to ever use it and treats it like a diamond--so there are still quite a few variables............
Also I am guessing it started life as a 475 6nz and was uprated to 550(heavy haul pkg?)there is a diff--therefor I would check the drive train very carefully--especially versus overall miles--heavy haul pkg is VERY torquey--and again works very wheel depending on WHOSE(and HOW many)feet were on the pedals--But for the most part the truck wouldn't scare me at all--just a few other things to look into--if you already haven't.....
Besides asking 22k--so Im sure you can shave that a bit..........
    Good Luck

theres something to it all my boss buys is 07 and older 379's with cat motors from all over the country o/o spec and a few fleet spec
he puts a lot of money in em and apparently he sees some sort of return cuz he keeps buying more were up to 40 trucks in 4.5 years not a typo excellent maintence on em as well. hell he replaced all my drives even though they were at 60 percent good tread even wear just because they were mis matched brands

if ur anal enough and have a good mechanic beside u looking over the truck that is able to spot poblems before u buy a truck u can really pick over the junk and get some real jems out there with a few years on em just because they're old dont always make em useless

nope. never said oldies were useless. but more often or not. they get 100 X more money put into em then a newer truck.

spend 100g on a 3 year old truck and monthly payments of 2,000.

spend 5g on a used truck and monthly maintanance of 10g per month.

i met a driver that paid 9g for a 2000 FL. with a rebuilt. had it thoroughly looked at by FL dealer. 6 months and $75,000 later. it's sitting in his backyard.
