Hauling gas is good. I like my job and my company. I'm making $17.66/hr and I have 2 weeks vacation. Busting my ### I can probably make $60k this year. If I'm still here in 10 years I will still be making $60k but maybe I got a third week of vacation.

I'm really just wanting to have an opportunity to advance beyond what I'm making now along with better vacations, insurance, and of course the pensions. Our structure isn't set up to keep drivers for through to retirement like the LTL companies are.

Very informative post, could you tell me if a driver had 2 years CDL-A 7 years ago and 8 years current CDL-B, would the 4 weeks of driving school in Ft. Smith still be required? Also, is the July 1 contract vote still pending?
    Thanks

I remember back before Carolina freight went out of business, bought by ABF. They hired like thirty or fourty casuals for dock work. I was one of them. I remember going to a hotel they had rented for applications and there must have been two hundred men there applying for those fourty jobs. Union jobs are the golden calf of the trucking industry, everybody wants them, and when one opens up it is best to grab it and see what it developes into.

Are the rules in the NMFA different than the 34 hour reset? I read somewhere that the Teamsters did it differently, had better working conditions than that. I read something about a 60 hour limit, or something, not sure, could you fill me in on that?

When the 34 restart came about, the company's under the NMFA and the Teamsters agreed to not use it. They would continue to recap their HOS.
    City operations worked 60/7 days
    road operations worked 70/8 days
Yes the working conditions are much better in a NMFA job than any other LTL ( Even with the pay cuts)

    BubbaDog Thanks this.

I have been on both sides, and, union conditions are much, much better to work under.
    Yes, just my opinion :)
