Well for the first post its not bs. I achieved my license through my employers private fleet. My road test was around 160 miles under a load, pulling live chickens. Its easy to achieve if you put in the effort. Four months after I had my license i was looking at different employers, and wouldve been hired on the spot for Vitran if I had my haz-mat and doubles. Its not rocket science to find a decent gig.

I'm in western Mass and I'm having quite a difficiult time finding a local job. all that i've gotten is phone calls for over the road stuff and i dont mind that as much either, its just that these companies all want to pay is pennies on the mile. i know that that eventually does more harm than it does good so i'll just keep looking. it seems as though all of these local companies want the experience or a name. my problem is that i'm trying to segue from a professional environment in an office setting and going to somethign completely different.

i'm courteous, efficient, i'm bi-lingual i can type, i'm very good with computers or electronics, i'm mechanically inclined and willing to work hard, but no luck. not even calls. any help is highly appreciated.

The OP is correct - there ARE local jobs out there...you just have to spend the time to look for them.

I am a newbie driver straight out of CDL school, and I just got hired on hauling fuel for a local company - they are training me on a bobtail truck for now and will start driving a tanker truck soon for overnight runs. Awesome pay and benefits. I also had a offer for a local propane place restocking tanks at Wal-marts, gas stations etc, but I decided to go with hauling fuel instead. It was kind of a nice problem to have - having 2 job offers at once.

I do have a stable job history and don't have a criminal background whatsoever - I'm sure this definitely helped me as well.

Look for the local jobs guys...you might have to put some work in to find them, but they are out there.

The OP is right on the money, finished endorsements on Friday and start working for local beer distributor tomorrow, of course didn't need all the

endorsements but landed a local job. Won't mind the daily workout to sleep at home everynite. Not to hard to figure out people need food and beer.:biggrin_2559:

Apply to all of them! Or look at grocery stores, liquor stores and restaurants in your area usually before noon and you'll see all the distributors delivering product.

Just go up and politely ask if they are looking for drivers. 7 Up, Pepsi, Coke and others deliver on a daily basis so maybe give it a try. Face to face is always better

than the pool of applicants on a website. Good luck leroy!
