Well now that I have a few solo miles under my belt it seems that if I'm not careful i will need a new belt. I have a few days here at home now and plan to equip my truck with some dumbells, maybe a jump rope, some resistance bands, a football, a few baseball gloves and balls, and maybe a frisbee.
I've gone for a few long walks during my periods out..mostly to find a walmart or someplace other than a truckstop to get supplies or to eat.
Anyone out there working the Roehl way have any good work out practices to share while on the road and what you do to make sure that you get them done?
I also wonder, for all of the progressive and efficient things that Roehl seems to work with, why they haven't incorporated any fitness items into the new driver facilities at the terminals. Maybe its just figured that no one will use them..not sure. Even a rack of dumbells in the drivers lounge..lol you could get some curls in while watching tv.
Just my next project since I'm getting more comfortable with the flow of business...

When I was in the Navy we used jump ropes and medicine balls as well as water dumbbells. You could also check out Crossfit. Search google for Crossfit on the go. I can tell you after you do about 20 Burpees you will find that you are not very fit, even if you squat 300, Bench 250, and run an 8 minute mile! Crossfit is easy to do on the road. You could also get the TRX system. It will hook to your truck door.
If you are worried about diet read up on Paleo. With it and Crossfit, I lost 20 pounds in 3 months. I also packed on muscle. If you can get a George Forman grill and a hot plate you can probably eat paleo pretty easy.
Let me know if you need anymore help. I love working out. I am worried about going on the road as well. If I can have the grill and hot plate along with a fridge I can keep eating how I eat now. -
If you have an iPhone or iPad there is this app called Nike I-fitness . You do that 4 times a week and eat somewhat right you will be in great shape.

Definitely a good topic. I have been preparing to do some cooking in the truck once I get on the road and try to eat right. Lord knows that for me, there is no better time to start than now. If you have a Cascadia or Columbia, I found this little set:http://shop.rollingstrong.com/fit/11-fit-system.html. It looks to be an effective system. I also have a pair of 25 pound dumbbells that I will put in the truck. I think the fitness room at the terminals would be a good idea too. Maybe even a half basketball court. I do like shooting some hoops.

Get the book "You Are Your Own Gym". You may have to be a little creative; IC bumper for some of the pull me ups, etc. There is also a companion Iphone app that is a pretty intense, too. Sometimes I will do one arm "pull ups" while driving (traffic permitting) or pull downs on the steering wheel to force the seat to the floor and hold for a 10 or 15 count. The work outs in the book are only 35 minutes long, but you will work up a sweat.

How do you keep and prepare food in a truck? I don't start CDL school until late July so I am curious if you can store fruits, veggies, nuts and things like precooked bacon and avocados easily. Can you cook in a truck as well? Like using a George Forman grill?

I go for runs a few times a week out here. If I know I'm going to shower than I'll take off on a 3 mile or 30 mins at least little run before I shower. Time permitting of course. This has been a big adjustment for me because I used to run 6 days a week at home.
It's pretty hard to eat decent. I have a microwave so I try to eat decent in the truck, but it's dang near impossible outside of the truck. I suppose you could be very careful about what you order and get at truck stops, but so many times your really hungry and pinched for time so you just grab whats quick and sounds good.
