I have a friend who works for this company. They have got to be the lamest organization on the planet. She is being harrassed about what they call 'Hard Braking Events', stupid stuff like having receipts and Atlas' on the dash board. And being verbally warned about keeping the permit book up to date when the book had been out of date since 2001. Now grant it she should have checked it. But what about the drivers who had operated the vehicle from 2001 - 2007. I mean how stupid are they. Plus this girl has been with this company for two years without so much as taking a day off for being sick. And she asked for four days to go out of town and was told she couldn't have those many days in a row. How much bull is that? Now she's stressed and second guessing herself when coming up on a stale green light because she doesn't want to get another HBE. I wouldn't work for the HUNT if they were the last company on Earth. I HATE that company!

The ridiculous thing is if she had that sort of attendance record in corporate America, they would be begging her to take some time off. This industry needs a paradigm shift to start appreciating and rewarding the Professional Drivers out there!

    If i remember right....Portland Area + HazMat in a 300 Mile Radius.............Probably Intermodal.

Which means that they'd ship your ### clear to South Gate CA for orientation...I don't understand why they wouldn't keep 1 or 2 safety guys in Portland or Seattle to train them as opposed to flying/busing them to SGCA.

about as well as to be expected i suppose.

I'm currently bumming around here in this hotel, waiting for tomorrow...Should get to sleep....Decided to get on here for the first time in about a week or two...

and no, I haven't hit a semi yet (thank god). I have hit a 2x4 which made a slight bump and sent splinters and dust flying off the right side of the locomotive, but all in all fine...only recently started hands-on training...

I have no choice but to be somewhat thankful to JB for the miles and pay I did get when I was there. Which wasn't very long. I fall into the catagory of someone who quit because of things that were happening in my life at the time relateing to my family and health. I did well and was safe and i put the truck back like I found it. Thank God. They were finally ready to re-hire me back after requalifying
again in 2007. But I let them slide. For 3 reasons I can think of now. The first is that they wouldn't take a more one on one helpful approach when I asked questions at the orientation. Questions like how is the driver supposed to respond to a dispatcher who expects maximum hours utilization all the time as a priority over the loads schedule. Is there an expected standard procedure to follow or would I eventually end up terminated for refusals to fully utilize. In other words why get started driving again if it would eventually lead to me being terminated. In my opinion the loads schedule should be the priority, not creating a back with too much scar tissue that develops from over use. Fully utilizeing my hrs all the time even when I was ahead of schedule? Keep delivering loads early? The 2ND reason has to do with a letter or two that I sent to the main office. The letter contained questions pertaining to CFR 392.3. I recieved a response via e-mail And in that response it said that we will not respond. I wonder why it was a condition of employment to continue to operate or drive a truck without knowing answers to what I think most drivers and myself would consider to be important questions regarding company policies haveing to do with the interaction of the safety and dispatch depts.-The 3rd reason is the general tone or feeling that i got from past interactions with people over the telephone in the main Lowell office. Also I have visited the Lowell offices in Person. I was hurried out but treated fairly. Although I wonder about the "And who are you?" type of feeling I got when I was there. I felt like I didn't fit in because of how I was dressed at the time. Regular non business clothes. Instead of a suit and western tie. Maybe if I wore my boots and Big Western hat and my buddy Quick Draw was there ya'll people might have been a little more
explaining and understanding in general. At almost all the other JB terminals I've visited I was very pleased with the general treatment. There was a sort of acceptance of "Them" meaning drivers. Like the people who worked local at that terminal were accepting of "them". Meaning I felt accepted when I have been in your presence in person. Which leads me to one final thought. If I'm accepted in person then why am I not on the telephone when dealing with some individual people involved in the entrance process who work from Lowell? I say to myself, Geeze if it were me and I was recruiting a new person who was not so new and has been there before maybe I would have another truck running all over for me now if I am somewhat understanding towards them on some small issue they are haveing. Because I am an understanding sort of guy I would let them start on a monday, because all the shops aren't open on weekends. I would also give them my last name when they asked for it instead of refuseing to give a last name when asked. It is because of the feeling I got that I let JB slide when I could have rushed down there and got in and drove away. I just felt like who ever it is I was speaking with in recruiting or whatever wherever over there in Lowell, whoever it was thought they had me to the point that they need not show me the same sort of respect that they would show another fellow human standing in line with them at a grocery store. I treat others with a simple respect even if I don't know them. That is like a requirement of every driver and for everyone to get along with each other in life. And to show others understanding too. They refused to even try to answer my letter. They refused to try to be understanding about starting me on a weekday. And they refused to even give me there last name. Some basic reciprocity not to mention a few basic college courses in effective business communication would be my recomendation to whoever it Twas. My requirements of my employer are so very small in relation to there requirements of me, you'd think they could sort of play along a little. It is still the little things that count and a power play with others is not where its at with me. I'll go somewhere else. But if they play along a little when they could have chosen to exercise there more powerful position over me I will go through hell for them.

This is the kind of unprofessional, antagonistic message that develops the kind of attitude drivers have about JB Hunt. By the way, check your spelling before you send out a message.
