Thanks for all the posts listed today. Many different opinions for sure!!!! I know that .12 cents a mile is piss poor and .13 cents for third seat is not much better, but I believe once I make it to 2nd seat it jumps substantially. The recruiter had said what it jumps to but I can't remember. I should have written it down. Again my geographical area doesn't leave me with much of a choice and I don't want to throw away the $3,795 I spent for schooling. I don't see me staying in training for very long....maybe a couple months because I excelled thru school rather quick and I will bust my rear to get myself out of training if I get on with Armellini. I just keep going back to I have to start somewhere and pay my dues. I'm hoping I can offset the low cents per mile with the pay I get for all the stops we make and several people including the recruiter say you can make a dozen or more (or less) plus they offer hub miles. I mean if I have to stick to the California runs (Oxnard,CA) to make more money I will. Round trip to oxnard is 5,460 miles at .12 cents a mile is.....$655.20 (gross). But then of course a northeast run is only like $350 (gross) cause it's around 2800 miles roundtrip. Not stellar but it's what I got to work with. If I get called for an interview I will go and ask the recruiter tons of questions and evaluate my options. I will bring up that .12 cents a mile is low and to take a northeast run roundtrip is far from $500 a week bring home. I will get the facts and report back to get a concensus even though it's ultimely up to me. If I walk away from the interview feeling like the risk is going to outweigh the gain then I just won't commit to them. But I would hate to have to pay another $1,000 for a refresher because I couldn't find anything within the 1 month span of graduating school.
At a major crossroads!!!!!!!

Good luck to you. I hope it all works out for the best. Maybe in a year or so you can move on to a better paying company if you want.
gearjammer1978 Thanks this. -
Brother, I know you have to do whatever it takes, and I wish you nothing but the absolute best. But twelve cents a mile makes my head hurt....I really hope you can find something better, even for your first job.
gearjammer1978 Thanks this. -
Thank You. I knew .12 cents a mile wasn't too good, but I didn't know how bad it is. Yeah I'll diffenantly talk to the recruiter if I get an interview about it. I doubt the amount will change just on my account but I'll see what else she has to say.

After 3-6 months, if it doesn't work for you, you will have enough experience to move on to something else. Maybe a tanker job in Florida. One new guy on here got on with CT pulling a tanker & home every day; it's a Comcar company. Anyway, the more experience you get, the more opportunities will become available.

How long does 4th and 3rd seat last for generally? People here seem to be assuming you're making 12cpm for a whole year.
Most companies play a flat rate for their training, 400 to 600 a week. Sounds like you have the potential of going a bit below that (it may not though), but it should only be for a few weeks, right? -
Yeah 4th seat @ .12 cents a mile is what I'll start out at and the recruiter said it's to see how well I do on the road. She said I'll get about 2 hours of drive time in a day (maybe more). She said your actually getting paid to do nothing but take it in & learn. I said to her so to progress from 4th seat to 3rd seat all depends on how well you pick stuff up and she said yes. So I'm guessing I'll only be a 4th seat for maybe 2 weeks or so. And then 3rd seat is a cent more a mile and gives me more responsibility and drive time. As long as I progress thru that at a good pace which I plan on doing and am sure I can do I can expect to be in 2nd seat within I'd say 2-3 months top or not even that long. I'll get 2nd seat when they see that I can control the tractor trailer on my own while the 1st seat driver is sleeping is what she said....and that makes sense!!!!

First off surfer joe is a conspiracy theorist that said one thing to ask the the recruiter might be is how long the average time is between seat advancement and I would assume the northeast run you would probly do 2 of those a week because I'm sure it will be ram like a team run so that would double the amount a week but that would be a question to ask aswell on how many of those tins would you average a week just remember research research research and don't be afraid to ask the same question more than once worded different ways you would be surprised on what you might discover by doing that and don't be afraid to question things you might feel isn't right......probly all sounds like babble but it seems like you got a good head on your shoulders just keep usen it man you'll figure it all out good luck to ya man
48Packard and gearjammer1978 Thank this. -
I don't think their training would go too much over 3 months, but I'm sure most people here would tell you to suck in as much training as you can while you can get it. Do what you can to make that first week alone a lil less scary, lol.

Don't do it!! You will probably regret it!! Like someone else said. .recruiters lie!! I went to a 10 week school also. . U could go anywhere to get ur otr experience for more then those pennies!!
