my most expensive shoes were a pair of Birkenstocks for $140 on sale at the time when I was a chef, those shoes were still in good condition even after 3 years being on my feet 12+ hours a day. I have a couple other pairs too that I could wear, one pair looks like work boots, I just have to find where they are at home since they have been boxed during our moves, kitchen shoes make great work shoes too since they are made for non slip on very slippery oily surfaces.
If I think about it I might try to go to an old navy for a cheap pair of those flip flops when im travelling through the city to my wifes grandparents house for the 4th, I live in the mountains so all we have is a kmart. -
Redwing aluminum hiking boots while working and driving. I got the hiking boots because they are lightweight comfortable and waterproof.

My current pair is a pair of Redwings.

Started out wanting to look the part and wore CowBoy Boots, but as health decline went to what I could get on my feet mostly Tennis shoes. One job had to force Steel Toed Boots which were comfortable but hard to put on swollen feet. Why I sit here wish I was out there with you instead of being out there.

I wear a couple different pairs of Irish Setter boots depending on what kind of unloading I'm doing. They're part of Red Wing so the same quality but much more comfortable. When I try regular Red Wings now I think they're uncomfortable as hell since switching to Irish Setter.
Sometimes I wear a pair of slip on deck shoes when driving or going into a hotel for the night. I don't know why but after I hit the shower in a hotel room I hate lacing boots back up to go eat so it's just easier. -
The most important thing is functionality. I am much more comfortable climbing around on top of a tanker in my running shoes than in my boots. They aren't as clunky and you have to step around dome lids and clean out caps up there. I would hate a policy like Schnieder has where you have to wear boots around the trucks.

I wear work boots most of the time, something with a short heel (roper style). I usually have 2 pair one clean for inside the truck, and one pair that I don't care what happens to them. I pull a step deck and get into some weird places some times, mud, water, grease, and no telling what else, so I wear the old dirty boots while outside, then keep a pair of decent boots for driving, so the inside of my truck doesn't get trashed.
