I am posting this as a reply about what a wonderful company they are. They advertised a local job and my brother and I called them. Long story short. Went to orientation, on third day they informed us there were no local jobs, we misunderstood the recruiter. The pay was not what we were told, same with benefits. We again must have misunderstood because the recruiter would not have lied to us or the other 2 drivers that were there for same position. 3 of us left and then Swift put on my brothers and mine DAC that we both worked there for over a month and we were terminated plus were involved in accidents. Lawyer needed to remove that one.

As far as the local position. I can't comment on that since I do not know what happened. That definately could be the case.
Pay and benefits: Its posted online, its set in stone. The only variation that I have heard from drivers is they call a recruiter and say they have 10 years experience, how much will I get paid. Come to find out it was 10 years ago, and they have not driven a truck since then. They would not fall under the 10 year experience pay package.

Well, I completed Orientation this past Thursday, I hired on as an experienced driver with 18 years experience. I worked for them before but it was Cooper Motor Lines back in those days when Swift bought them out. I was promised .41 a mile for my verifiable experience and thats what they brought me in as. I was also guaranteed the newest tractor they could manage, and its a 07 Volvo with 90K miles. They sent it to the cleanup shop at the terminal and had it cleaned just like they said it would be. So far my experience has been very positive. I leave out in the morning and they want me training inside 30 days, so I may just do that. I was a trainer for them before back in the old days, I even saw a few familiar faces inside the terminal. I am glad to be back on-board. I will be reporting from the road often I am sure, I really love this site, its invaluable for the OTR driver in this new age of technology IMO.

I received my 12 weeks of training at a trucking school in ky, and three years later
(I'm a slow starter) I started my first job with Swift, went out with a very good trainer for 12 weeks, and then they put me in a smaller very used truck, which was very hard to get used too. any way, I left in a few months to spread my wings, looking back I wish that i would have just stayed there.
I just decidedbefore Christmas 2007 that I wanted to go back to work for Swift, (I had a very hard year as an owner operater running a 1993 FLD 120) So, After Christmas I contacted a recruiter, then on the 28th I sent in my application electronically, contacted her to make sure she recieved it, she did, one week later I contacted her, it was not completed it, another week it was done, and it was time to go to orientation, I drove 250 miles to orientation (Recruiter gave me the option to drive or take the bus, they would pay for gas up to the price of a bus ticket or pay for the ticket), The drivers parking lot had at least 2 cars in it that somebody had litterly stole the tires and wheels off of, and there was spots of glass on the ground where there had been windows broke out of cars, (what was amazing is there is a security guard in a booth at the fenced in parking area) any way, I decided I did not want to park my car there, it was better off at home.
I went to orientation, we had to be in the lobby (Holiday Inn) at 05:15 a.m. to catch the Swift bus that went to the yard, where we socialized until the class started about an hour or so, there was about 30 Trainee's and about 16 First seat, Swift has a very comprehensive physical process, and a very compact orientation (2 days), when we were done in orientation, the First seat drivers were told which terminals they would be assigned too, and we were told that there was only one truck available at that terminal, and it was already assigned to one of the rehires (which was no problem, someone had to get it) the rest of the drivers assigned to that terminal would have to wait another day or more for some trucks to come available, I was told to go home because of two reasons, 1. My Application had not been completed. 2. The terminal that I was assigned too did not have any trucks available, and when my ( in fact there was no trucks available in any of the terminals that they mentioned) I went home and I contacted the recruiter (2 days later) that I was in contact with and she told me that my application was completed, BUT the terminal that I was assigned to is not accepting any new experienced drivers, and they were trying to get me re-assigned to a terminal to where there is a truck available, it has been almost 2 weeks since orientation, and apparently there still is not any trucks available out of their 18,000 trucks, everybody that I have talked to is very polite and professional, I have since been told that some drivers wait for 2-3 weeks after orientation for a truck to come available, I have requested that they send me anywhere that there may be a truck available, they said they are trying, and this has been my experience, good, bad, or indifferent.

Well, after 6 days of running, I am sitting in Florence KY waiting to live unload in the AM. I currently have 3100 miles in a week. I am very happy. 3 out of the 5 loads were preloaded so all I had to do was drop and hook. I hope this trend continues.

I am not sure what to make of some of these Swift complaints. A lot of them seem to be big company complaints, not specific to Swift, but true of any big company.
-
In terms of recruiters - I am a big fan of informing them over the phone that the conversation - thusly EVERYTHING they say including all their claims - is going to be recorded.
-
Well, its almost the end of week 2, I am sitting in Miami waiting to be unloaded tonight and I have 2800 miles this week, so to be sitting at almost 6K at the 2 week mark in the month of Feb, they are looking pretty good so far. About 75% preloaded trls so far and maybe 50% drop and hook on the del end of things. I am going to run a few more days this week and go home for a long weekend. Sign me pretty dern happy.
