My handle is Krazy Scott...nice ta meetcha!

I'm looking to get into the trucking industry, but my wild youth has caught up with me, apparently. I straightened out my life in 2007 and haven't been in trouble since. Prior to that I have three misdemeanor convictions, that last of which was my solitary drug charge in 2005. Unfortunately the probation violation stemming from that extends into 2007 when I turned myself in, served my time, and quit screwing up.

Now, however, I'm finding it difficult to find a trucking company that will forgive the ENTIRE list of travesties I left in my wake. Some forgive the drug charge but say I have too many misdemeanors. Others could care less about the misdemeanors but say the drug charge and the resulting probation violation is too recent.

The list of companies that have said no include CR England, Schneider, and Central Refrigerated, so I figured I needed to ask for some guidance. On the lighter side, Driver Solutions/PAM Transport said yes, but if you stop to consider the horror stories told and all the many people that want a class-action lawsuit against them, it seems like their record is actually worse than mine...they just have better lawyers. *laughs*

Does anyone out there know of a decent company with paid training that will give a guy a break? I have an excellent work history, spotless driving record, and am ready to go...I was even baptized last year, for pete's sake.
Any replies that aren't completely foolish will be appreciated

Good luck. I find that beggers cant be choosers...well most of the time.
I wouldn't hesitate to go with whatever company could get me in the door if I were you. You have to pay your dues first. By the time thats over, maybe you will have enough time between your past to move on. Good luck.

Also, you are going to have to ignore all the self righteous perfect people who will reply to this. Some of these drivers have never done anything wrong.

I completely understand, I really do. The one thing that keeps me from saying yes is that DS/P has issues with improperly obtained CDL's in some areas...which have been revoked by authorities. I need my CDL to be, err, legal.

That's why I'm asking for other options from people in the industry before I commit....

Keep plugging away. Try all the training companies, Swift, CRST, Werner ummm I know I'm missing someone, but it's escapeing me at the moment. ( the ones you didn't mention that is).

I hate saying go with who ever will take you, but you may have to. By the time you get experience a better company might overlook your past, enough anyway.

    Good luck

To be honest, I was pretty surprised that I'm having a hard time getting trained...one conviction was in '89, another in '94...those are over/almost 20 years old, I was amazed that they were still relevant...but Central Refrigerated wouldn't clear me for training due to them number of misdemeanors...the other two companies had issues with the drug charge being recent (within 10 years)...

I did it to myself, so I'm not crying about it (in public). I just thought with the clean driving record and work history that someone wouldn't care what I did when I was a pissed-off kid...

I'd agree with go with who will take you. By the time you get experience, you'll have more time past those old charges as well.

Side note, don't expect to be able to run Canada. Many of our misdemeanors are felonies up there.

Wow, really? I could care less personally, but that would limit me with some carriers...I'll have to research that a little closer, thankya!

i don't know where you live but if there are oilfield jobs close to you thats where i would start looking. there are a lot of the smaller companies that will look past it.

That provide training? That's my issue...my last job ended rather suddenly and I'm strapped for the money to pay for the training myself...so I need something that's company-sponsored and having a devil of a time finding anyone reputable to give me a chance...

Try prime, they have a training program and your drug feloney should be old enough.
