I've wondered how well they TX/RX as opposed to a Wilson 1000? The Larsen has a shorter whip.

Handlebar is dead on with his advice 305.. A saying about vertical antennas is that they radiate equally poor in all directions. That's if they're mounted in a vertical position. If you really wanted to reach out, do as a previous poster suggested and rig up a nice di-pole antenna. Di-pole ARE directional so if you want to talk to the East or West, you run the wire to the North and South. Another option could be a long wire. Basically, a long wire running straight out of your garage, other end up in a tree or down in the holler somewhere tied to a fence post. I've heard with an antenna tuner, people even use chainlink fences and tuen them up with a wire connected to them. Biggest and wierdest thing I saw was an old Steel bridge. They used an antenna tuner and brought those SWR's right do to the minimum..

There are folks that run antennas inside thier houses or apartments. Even up in the attic is a good place to run a wire di-pole. You just gotta put your creative hat on and do some searchin on the internet.. Google Long Wire CB antennas. Here's a shot of a longwire run indoors.. http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl...v4rUUcCYB8LctAanqIDwDA&ved=0CAkQxiAwBw&iact=c

First I've heard of this but I don't doubt it happens....I have heard of people using the metal gutters on their houses as antennas...and like you said, use an antenna tuner to match the impedance to the radio transmitter.

I'll have to try the dipole next, I seem an actual dipole antenna at a local radio shop for around $20. I'd love to set up a base antenna but as I previously mentioned I don't have permission from the landlord to do so. And handlebar always has great advice. It's nice to get on a forum and actually get helpful advice from people who know what they are talking about for once.

My new radio I picked up today, Uniden PC78XL, got it for $50 off Kijiji. Guy I bought it off said his boss tuned it but that's all he knew. Apparently his boss does this as a hobby so I have no idea what was done to tune it but it sounds good and works. Plus it's nice to now how the extra 17 channels haha

quick question: Because the way my antenna is mounted I know I have a poor ground but will it hurt the radio/antenna if I use it with the Antenna light on? It flickers when I talk but my buddy who's a CB guy said its just because of the said poor ground. Is that a correct assertion? I'm adding a photo of the new radio.
