1999 Freightliner Classic xl

The Series 60 is a bullet proof motor - as long as it's been properly maintained.
We will need more specifics..They didnt come 550 stock (that I have seen in that year?) so someone likely turned it up.

Miles? Was it overhauled...did they replace the Bull Gear during the overhaul?
Do they have all paperwork for everything done?

I would post pics and more detailed information.

Price seems about right though....for the year

 

If you have it free & Clear it is the best investment you will ever make you will work when you want and that is something a few people can say just take sample oil from both Rears & Trans. & Engine and send it to an oil lab ($150)then go to detroit diesel & have them tell you the truth not what some one said

I agree with this...but not sure DD will have paperwork or records if an overhaul was done in an independent garage....
So, just keep that in mind.

I contacted DD myself with my rig and what work was done, all matched up.
Whats nice, is that if a DD shop does ANYTHING on the rig, its all logged in their system.
Even a wheel hub replacement.

Sounds good. With no more than that invested you should have money left to fix little things that will break. The suspension and bushings are probably shot and seals around windows are things that will more than likely need attention. Most o/o's don't replace that stuff because it wears out so gradually that they don't notice. Just look at tires and it will give you a good idea of just how good of a truck it is. There will be more and more of these trucks out there as this year winds down cause they won't be able to go into CA next year.

 

The 14 liter Detroit's were a factory 550 HP. 12.7's went to 500 from the factory. Check the sticker and see what it says.If it's a 12.7, it MUST say 500HP on it, as the lower rated ones cannot be upgraded to the 500, different head etc IIRC. So if it say 470 on the sticker, dont believe a word that comes out of the sellers mouth when he tries to BS you into thinking it's a 500 or 550, unless of course he has paperwork to prove it...
