Not sure what you mean by form. You mean different ways to do it?
-
From one student to another, I'm pretty sure the differences your trainer means is the thorough actually pretrip you perform because you need to, and the BS one you do for the DMV. Trust me, the second one is the only one your school cares about. When I was "tested" on pretrip, the only reason I lost points is because I messed up the mock DMV test part at the end.
Le Cou Rouge Thanks this. -
The only differences in the forms would be the format. Doesn't matter how the form is layed out, the trucks are all basically the same as far as parts. Engine, steering components, suspension, wiring, air system, breaking system, frame and everything bolted to that frame!
-
The forms are a b and c. I believe form a is the tractor including coupling system the in cab and air brake check form b is trailer and coupling system the in cab and air brake check and form c is everything. When you are tested the DMV randomly draws a form and that's what you pretrip on the test

Learning for the DMV test, exactly, lol.
Hey, I was really nervous about the pre trip at first too. Felt like an idiot walking around a truck with my classroom buddies calling out the same stuff on a broken truck every day for weeks. Do it though. Once you do it enough, you'll wonder why you were so nervous. Just pay attention to the testing procedure stuff tho, thats what they actually care about... -
Thtas funny, I had to do everything to get my CDL. If all you had to was form b for your pre trip and you got a CDL you missed the entire tractor.
-
That's the first I've heard of form A. and form B. Seems very irresponsible of the DMV to issue a CDL without having the tractor and trailer pre tripped.
Wanderingaimlessly Thanks this. -
From what I've been told about the NY DMV test, the testers are just lazy sometimes. If you start at your door, work your way around and are confident and doing well, they'll tell you to just jump in the cab for the in cab stuff. Either way, you only do the passenger side of the trailer, and can't go underneath the tractor or trailer, so you just call stuff out and list the minimum requirements (slack adjusters, brake pads).

I pulled the entire pretrip when I tested. Either way I knew the pretrip I guess the DMV in tennessee does that to mess with you because while learning the pretrip you get in a order and they want to make sure you can pretrip a trailer when you do a drop and hook or pretrip the tractor when you are bobtailing. Etc. they make sure you know it not just resight it
