Sarabeara,
Did you find any work for that new truck of yours that is giving you so much grief? -
Wow I wasn't expecting the dealership to be so high. My first loans were at 6.75% and 7% but I was financing 2 trucks and trailers. I have also used my HELOC to get my interest rate down. Also take a look at ATB Financial who I went through.
I know daf said to look at a fixed rate which provides you with predictable payment but I would look at variable myself as they have more flexible early payment terms in my opinion. I can make early payments of any amount. The flip side is your rate is tied to the prime rate but with the economy I wouldn't expect to see it increase for about a year. -
Prairie Boy how did it go with the 10 macks you bought last year? I've been talking to some guys and they cant say enough good things about them. On the other hand, another guy says they spend all their time on flatdecks.
-
Overall, I have not heard of any major problems with them. A few small things happen but what truck doesn't have these issues.Basic Thanks this.

Between myself and another person we have 7 Macks. The only issues I have had are a fan being replaced and some coolant leaks and sensor codes. The only issue I know he has had is a braking thing but it was due to the driver taking corners so fast it was engaging the ABS to prevent a roll. Other than regular maintenance, I have spent less than $1000 between my three trucks in the combined 375,000km. I did pay for the extended warranty which covers the full drive train, chassis and emissions for 3yr.
The other owner uses his four running gravel with Super Bs in the city. So a much different environment then what I do which are 400km round trips hauling cement and flyash.Basic Thanks this. -
I was at the Mack dealership today. I've been hearing good things about them, but the one bad thing I've heard has really turned me off. Theres also a youtube video from a guy that has a bunch of the granites and hes ranting about how terrible they are.
I'm heading out to Fox Creek to look at a guys small fleet (7 between the last 3 years). And his brother is going to take me out on a trip with him down the ANC and Im going to test it out. He heavy hauls in the bush. His only has 1000 hours on it and 35,000 kms on it and he hasn't even had light flicker on it. All Mack but the rear end is rockwell.
The one the dealership guy is trying to sell me is mack rear end which Ive heard here isnt very strong. He's also trying to sell me 3.98 as opposed to the 4.11 saying Im going to save a bunch more fuel if I do. The advantage is if I get that truck I wont have to do any waiting for it. What do you guys think about that? mack rears and 3.98?
He pulled out his ledger which had pioneer trucks all over it saying they were buying them left and right. I'd love to hear how those are working out for them guys ^^. Here I heard they were speccing out KWs in lloyd - I wonder why they'd be doing that?
I'm probably going to be making the purchase this week, maybe next. there arent a whole lot of people using them trucks around here. It's a risky purchase in my opinion.
Oh and does anyone know if its better to buy the truck inside the incorporation or if Im better off leasing it to the inc? Actually does anyone know any killer accountants in the area? -
Tell them you will field test the M drive trans, and talk it up around town. For a price.....!
I personally don't see much difference between the 3.98-4.11.Basic Thanks this. -
<snip>
I've never bought my own truck, that said, I think getting a good accountant would've been one of the first things I would do. Just Sayin.
I'm sure those Mack rears are good...they're as good as you are. Big Rockwells will break too.Basic Thanks this. -
I do! I went to asphalt hauling. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I wont have any more grief. Thanks so much for asking!
