The qualcom product starts you with 8 hours now. You don't get the rest of your hours until you take your 30 minute break. Take that break too early, and it will want another 30 minute break at the end of the next 8 hours of driving.
An observation... when it started with 11, you knew you had your 11 hours. Now, you can have anything from 11 down to 8 hours hiding behind that little "8" when you start for the day. One needs to take a look at the Summary page BEFORE you hit the road now to see exactly what the state of your condition is.

Ya I found out the hard way about that taking the break too early. Then the second break if I would of took it would of put me out of hours on my 14 or super close to it. So I just decided to do my 10. I just got to receiver. Millard in Allentown and don't deliver till 23:30 tmrw and pick up a load from the same place. Heading toward Chicago land.
My 34hr restart. I started last Sunday night. I still have 20 hours on the 70, but the qualcom is saying and has been saying Next 34 hr restart eligible now. So I wonder if it will let me take my restart early probably won't be leaving Allentown till sometime monday morning. Do You guys Irony Pony say eligible now to start next 34 hr reset or something else? View attachment 50464 -

I haven't seen anything in the way of an informational message about 34 hour restarts. I don't often take one... it's usually on home time, or if I'm dealing with truck issues that involve ordering parts. I almost exclusively run off of my recap.
Really, the only thing that concerns me about this is just making sure that at some point I really do remember to check and see if I've actually hit 30 minutes on a break before I'm out on the road again. -
View attachment 50465 Say's last restart was 06:14 7/2/13. It has been saying next 34 hr start all week. I do know that legally I can't begin one until tmrw night. Was wondering though and I guess I'll see if the qualcomm gives me the 70 hours once my 34 that I will be starting tonight ends at 5am Monday morning or if it will probably not reset till Tuesday at 5am even though I'm not going to wait because I have a delivery Tuesday. Some pretty decent hours coming off so. Guess only time will tell. Also from all the safety class we took at my company it never said anything about the qualcomm making you take more then one break if you break too early. I also noticed that clock restarts even when you in the sleeper. So guess only time will tell. I truly hope they get rid of this crazy 34 hr reset rule. Not sure which I hate more the 1-5am or the one restart in 7 day.

I need some info on HOS 70/8 recap. I tried looking throughout the forums but didn't find a clear answer. Hoping someone awake could help me.
I'm back OTR after 10 years local with weekends off. So I don't know how recap works. I'm afraid I won't get any hours back tomorrow and I'm on a broker load. Less than 2 hours from drop. E-logs.
I got caught up at a fuel place and lost an hour+ of time as well as bad weather and new to me winding roads.
I'd appreciate any help I could get.born&raisedintheusa Thanks this. -
1) You are allowed 70 hours of driving in an 8 day week. This averages out to 8.75 hours a day if you were to do it this way.
2) A truck driver is allowed a 14 hour work day.
3) Out of those 14 hours, 11 of those hours are the most a truck driver can drive in a single day.
4) After the 14 hour work day is up, the truck driver is required to take a 10 hour break.
5) During the 1st. 8 hours of driving, a truck driver is required to take a 30 minute break.
6) If a truck driver uses up their 70 hours before his or her 8 days are up, they must take a 34 hour break, (known as a reset). After the 34 hours are up, the truck driver's 70 hours starts all over again.

Anyway, 70 hours in 8 days. So, tomorrow being Wednesday, you would get back any hours you worked last Tuesday.horsecrazychic22 Thanks this.
