I have a huge decision to make and I need some advice from my fellow drivers. Here is the dilemma, I work for a FedEx contractor doing day linehaul 5:00am to about 18:00 Tuesday thru Sat on a dedicated run that is 3200 miles a week. I net $993.00 a week. I do not get any benefits,401K,sick time or personal days.
I was offered a job at Venezia Transport doing local work out of their South Plainfield,NJ office working Mon-Fri with some Sat's thrown in, start times would be between 02:00 and 06:00 and working 12-14 hour days. It would be a pay cut because I would be making between $800-1000 before taxes but would get full benefits with 401k which because of my age 45 is important, paid vacation and earned personal days. I think long term Venezia would be better for me but I would really appreciate advice or opinions from my fellow drivers.
Am I nuts for even considering leaving a job that I make $993.00 and have decent hours????
I really need advice from my fellow truckers!!!!!

I would do it for the health insurance alone... One serious illness/accident and there goes everything!!
-
No your nuts for not making the move to the benefits.
By the time you add them in you'll be better off.
Just amazed you had to think more than a min on the decisionJrdude5 Thanks this. -

Forget health care think "government health care" u will be paying for it soon but wont get it for several years. And private insurance will be history , they are pulling out now , doctors are retireing in droves. Oh and the government is ready to take everyones 401 k , in exchange for 60 % value in a gov. Run retirement. Read it and weep..................
southpaw2153 and Jrdude5 Thank this. -
Why in the world would insurance get out of the healthcare industry when the government is subsidizing them? I don't think you have your facts straight. This is a huge transfer of taxpayer money to private companies not the other way around

The Obama plan is designed to eventually squeeze out health insurance companies, so the government will have total control over everything you do.

Go for it man, the benefits will more than make up for the lower pay rate.
-
benefits, vacation, insurance, retirement. along with a lower wage will always pay better then the higher wage with NOTHING.

No i dont. They want a single payer health care.. Or government only.. You will not be able to buy it if u could find it , except from the gov. Exchange. That is what they sold to the public. " remember you can keep your insurance if you want to gov. Quote." private insurance is going up now 80% to 150% . They are just playing the game right now, then the gov. Insurance will look good by comparison . And they will say "those greedy old insurance companys ,see how they raised their rates " they deserve to go out of business. Just come to daddy " government' we will take care of you. Why do you think the i.r.s. Is in charge of " collecting " your insurance money . So if you dont pay they can garnish your wages , freeze your bank accounts, take your refund check ,stocks , bonds, any thing they want to take ,they have the power !!! If you dont pay your premium on private ins. They just cancell your policy . We now will all have to fill out irs forms with our income tax , so they can decide what health care we should get and how much we will pay. The business mandate was just pushed foward till next jan. 2015 . That means more unemploymet .....next year. These are the facts think about this when you get your irs medical insurance forms!!!!!
