I have a lot of experience driving in ND but I have some friends who are interested in buying a truck and leasing on. Does anyone know whether most of the companies that accept lessors have requirements for trucks and what they might be? I know what the company trucks I drive are like but they also cost about $350,000...

Good luck being a leaser up here and making money... You can call deer valley, rhino trucking, and Wylie bice/ j&s trucking... But u will not make S%£*... They work here and there no more 24/7 up here. U want to drive here become a company driver.... Our will learn to hate the views of the truck stop parking lots....

scrach about every company off the list that cobra mentioned they have horrible reputations.

most have no requirements for trucks. cascade is the only company that i can think of that has a age requirement on trucks and they dont pay sheet. they may be ok to get started as they pay for your fuel and take care of your authority but there percentage is so steep you wont make any money.

    btw what trucks are 350k?

you can have a bran new pete 389 heavy haul speced and all the bells and whistles for just under 250k

price of vac trailers is way down in recent years 50k will get you a nice trailer only a couple years old. alot of people getting out and selling there equipment right now.

if you are really seriously considering becoming a o/o track all expenses for your truck over the next 6mo fuel repairs ect keep books on it as if you owned the truck. keep track of what is invoiced and how much the truck would have made. also plan on the fact that oilfeild work pays slow. plan on 10k per month for every month you need to run the truck while you wait to get paid. not counting equipment payments if you take out a loan for your equipment. put together a bissness plan together have several prospective places to lease onto. the good company's to work for rarely ever advertise start making connections now.

Thanks for your reply. The truck I was talking about is a Freightliner Coronado. I was told that's how much it cost, that may have been including all the preparations and modifications that go into it as well, idk.

maybe custom specked new with pusher and custom specked new 150bbl triple axle vac trailer plus all preparations. fet plates whole 9 might get close to that. even then 350 is a stretch.

buying good used and all preps you could put together a truck for less than 120.

if buying used don't be tempted to buy a truck that was already in the oil feild. buy a truck and set it up for the oilfeild. most trucks that have been in the oilfeild a while are pretty well trashed esp if they have had hired drivers in them.

also if looking at more than one person going in on this deal you are probably doomed from the start, trucks are expensive to own repairs fuel ect. arguments over who pays for what and how profits are divided ect will likely ruin your company and your friendships.

don't be too hasty to get into it. if this is really something you want to do start saving every penny now or you will go broke before you even get a chance to succeed. start tracking expenses and keeping good records on the company truck your running run it as if it was your own. plan plan and then plan some more put it on paper.

also dont forget buying the equepment is the cheap easy part. after that is when the fun really starts

edit: i assumed your talking water, what part of oilfeild trucking are you looking to be a o/o in water/crude/dirt/sand???
