I suspect most bean counters at larger companies don't figure APU's and webastos are going to save money [fuel costs] vs idling as I think it's pretty much a push. I think they are looking more at the depreciation loss because used truck buyers are looking as hard at engine hours as they do truck miles. IMO, a webasto running on a 20 degree night burns as much fuel as idling, and an APU, maybe more. When you think about it, California has perhaps caused MORE diesel emissions released by the increased use of webasto and APU's that don't burn as clean as newer engines. Ignorant, political morons
-
No it doesn't, it's not even close. A diesel engine is an extremely inefficient way to keep a cab warm. Less than 5% efficiency. Both Espars and Webastos use .07 gallons/hr on the highest setting, at 20 degrees you should be on the lowest or next to the lowest setting. Probably .04 gallons/hr.
-
But have you seen the exhaust they put out? That's what I'm referring to in regards to California. But I challenge any of those mfgr's to prove those consumption rates because I don't believe for an instant they (webasto units) only burn .05 gallons an hour IN THE REAL WORLD ..... .5 gal/hr maybe I'll believe
-
Have you seen the size of the fuel pumps?

Hasn't anyone heard of sleeping bags, especially mummy style sleeping bags? No need for idling in cold weather, just get warm in the bag. Easier to stay comfortable than in hot weather. I've spent many many a night camping on glaciers, snow, and mountains in temperatures well below zero, comfortable and warm. Total cost for investing in warm gear .... maximum $400-500 for clothing layers and sleeping bag. Return on investment by not idling can be recovered in a couple of weeks.
-
What's this thing you call a "sleeping bag"??
-
You carry a mummy in a bag?
DrtyDiesel Thanks this.
