I have been looking into relocating and getting into the oil patch as a driver. I have been trying to research companies, housing, wages etc. I have to say this forum has by far been the most help. I wish I would have found it sooner and saved several long nights on the Internet finding useless information. I have been driving trucks my entire adult life, around 20 years now. (I am 40) I currently am a firefighter here in Missouri but still drive on my days off. I pull everything from tankers to frameless end dumps to removable gooseneck trailers hauling heavy equipment to 7 and 8 axle dump trucks. I'm not going to get into many details about my current career as it sucks to think I'm about to lose it, but the economy is hitting departments hard and with 8 years I'm still the bottom guy. I want to get out of this on my own terms before my butt is on the street. I have been to San Angelo a few times over the past three years working the Drag Boat races for Lucas Oil ( another part time gig I have and absolutely love !!) I really like the area and the people I have met there. I have been looking at housing on Craigslist to rent and it sure is pricey, but I know I can make something work. I just need to be pointed in the right direction of a good company to work for and any options on relocating. Chalk Mountain is one I am looking at as they are in San Angelo. I know there are many more who are probably looking for drivers. I'm very used to long hours and hard work (sometimes in a dump truck for 36 hours straight hauling asphalt) if anyone can give me some advice, contacts, etc. I would greatly appreciate it. I would be looking at making the move in the next 30 days or less. If this post is in the wrong place I apologize, feel free to move it. Thanks everyone and be safe out there.
