The Petros have the cleanest showers of the big chains. TA is by far the dirtiest. I can't find a good meal at any of the big ones. I'm glad I bring my own food on the road.

For fuel and showers stops I tend to favor Petro primarily because they segregate the trucks away from the 4-wheelers, and the parking lots are big enough I can usually find a place to park.
For food I tend to migrate towards the smaller independent truck stops with food that is cooked from scratch in their kitchens. Yummy! -
The ma & pa ones are the better ones .... they may be small and some a little dingy .... but as far as service and such they are better
There are a couple that I stop at when I am going thru .... I94 at Rothsay,MN .... I90 at Moorcroft, WY and one just outside of Massena,NY .... I think it is The Bears Den .... GREAT food .... full service fuel pumping for the same price (even though its high at all of them up there) and cant beat a carton of smokes for $15

Bosselman's in Grand Island Neb was good. The Petro's are ok but they've been going downhill for a while now. Flying J is ok for showers and parking and fuel but I won't eat there.

I would have to say my all time fav is Molly's in Snowville Utah. Small home town cookin and a big lot for trucks..so if you are ever on I-84 from Tremonton Ut to Burly Id you should stop and say Hi to Molly
-
The one with an open parking spot at 2:30 am.
-
nope you must have been at a different Molly's, I used to live in Snowville, and the lot was never full, because there is a flying hook about a half a block away

Good home country cooking.
With purdy purdy waitresses. -
I81 at exit 128 (I think) in Virginia is a small truck stop with a diner called Dixies. It also has a subway in the same building.
Dixies is affordable and the portion sizes are generous. Better than the big chains thats for sure. -
I like Flying J's because I get the net through them and it's relatively fast, there is a fairly large lot at most of them, and that #### buffet. I don't eat it unless they have fried chicken and mashed potatoes but there is something about that gravy. If I am stopping there for the night, I either eat a slice of pizza and go to sleep or I get that ridiculously overpriced buffet and gorge myself on mashed potatoes and gravy.
I hate Pilots and Loves with a passion just because they never have real food, only fast food. TA's aren't "bad" but they are usually pretty dirty, and I actually like a few of the petros out there, mainly the one in El Paso, the one in Joplin, and the one in W Memphis (paid parking is my friend, company pays me back and there are always plenty of parking spots even when it's late).
Other than them, I usually look for smaller ones out of the way where it will be quite.
