I have a nice little house in Michigan that I love. Wonderful "extended family" (no wife or kids).
I guess I'm resigned, ND is the place where I can go away and make money and come back from time to time. It's not like one of these jobs where they say, "after one year, you get a whole week off!" Gee, thanks... No, this could be adequate home time for me for awhile, at least until the SW Michigan economy picks up, though I don't expect to be alive, then.
Good for you, though, got it all!
Clarify something for me about water hauling

I did the water thing for a year before fuel and it was 99% dirt roads. You get used to the bumping and banging around, the filthy trucks and such. Like every job it had its good and bad. The work wasn't overly difficult and some of those roads can be fun to crawl along on, no fear of running afoul of DOT out there, the pay was good, and I got to go home every night. There is a lot of standing around loading and unloading but no real downtime and where I was working you didn't have long drives between stops. Sometimes you could sit for hours waiting but that was the exception and not the norm. I was paid hourly and most days were about 11-14 hours long with the occasional 16 every couple weeks. The commute was 45 mins each way so that sucked but it was a 4 on 2 off schedule.

So, we're talking about:
-great pay
-home daily
-less risk of DOT issues
Crawling on the lease roads may have been fun when I first got to New Mexico but BIA 14 has sucked any fun out of rough roads anymore. One more option for me would be to get my own truck. Sand O/Os can have a net before taxes even better than most crude oil company drivers. The point is, there is quite a bit of difference in these various oilfield driving jobs and you have to find what you like. I've got some more things to mull over.
