I applied to Sunoco while I was still OTR with Schneider. All I got was an email saying they received my app.

If you guys that are looking for jobs can afford it, drive down to this area. If you don't have a camper/rv, there is a motel 6 in Big Spring that is $50 or so a night. It's a total dump, but it's as cheap as it gets for this area. Bring with clothes you can burn after staying there... The only tent option I know of is off exit 126, north and then west. It's called Midessa RV park or some crazy ####. Anyways they have tent spots. The final option is sleeping in your car, which is not unheard of in any of the boom towns. Pilot and Loves have showers for $10 (pilot price). Of course you can ask drivers if they have a free shower they are willing to give you. I know for myself, I have a few free showers on my pilot card, I would give them away to anyone who asked for no reason at all. I'm sure there are other drivers willing to do the same.

For any other kind of detailed info that I might possibly be able to provide, you will have to PM me. I'm not willing to post company names or locations on here. Same goes for any of my contact info :).

I sent you a pm Scott.

Driving down does apparently work for the well services jobs...frac crew, wireline, etc. I'm not sure about the crude haulers especially Sunoco. They are pretty thorough. It took two weeks for my final clearance....AFTER I interviewed and took the physical and driving test. They do hair follicle drug tests and background checks...I think those two are the main time consumers. So...if you drive down for that...be prepared to camp for a while...or...I came back home to wait it out.

I would say just keep puting in the online apps and making phone calls. Thats what I am doing and with no experience other than driving, I have talked many companies into interviewing me for wireline, coiled tubing positions with no experience in them whatsoever. But I have been totally honest with them and didnt try to act like I knew even a little bit. Expressing your willingness to drive 1000-1200 miles from home to POSSIBLY land a job with one of these crews shows you are motivated (or stupid) as my current co-workers tell me!! I think its all in how you approach them, just saying I want a job how much do you pay isnt going to get you very far. Think about what you want to say before you call and ask questions, show interest. After all this is their world you are asking to come into. Its a brotherhood of sorts, they are particular who they let into it. I am in the fire service and know all to well how this goes. Now I just need to figure out which part of Texas I am going to for work. I have talked to companies all across the state and it boils down to where do I want to relocate to. I have to say Corpus Christi is looking nice, I hadnt even looked there until today and made a good contact with a coiled tubing crew.

    Arky Thanks this.

You are exactly right. These guys are not all that excited about talking to people out of state to begin with, so you have to keep in mind that although you are trying to find out what they can offer you...the only thing they are concerned about is what you can offer them. They don't hve time to be messing with tire kickers. When you make these phone calls...fill out these online apps..put your big boy pants on and be ready to back up what you promise...and let them know you are ready to do just that.

Did you manage to get on the coiled tubing crew after all? What were the qualification requirements? pay? This is an area that I too was interested in.
    Thanks!
