You would have to get the permits for Georgia.

You will need to add Georgia to your plates and obtain an intrastate permit in Georgia. Some states do not require intrastate authority. I do not know if Georgia is one, you will need to check. You cannot move loads between the two states unless they are exempt loads (logs etc.) without having an intrastate authority. There is a loophole in the authority regulations allowing you to cross state lines within a major metro area (Northern VA, DC, Maryland comes to mind). Hope it helps.

Logs are exempt, you can go anywhere you want with them so long as you have the correct states on your plates.

You will need to have any state you run in on your IRP. You will need a DOT number. You will need to make sure your truck and trailer will pass inspection. You will still need to complete IFTA returns each quarter. You are still required to maintain your log book if travelling outside a one hundred mile radius. You are still required to have a valid CDL and medical. You will not need operating authority hauling an exempt commodity.

Be careful with logs. DOT cops love to stop log trucks because they are normally beaten up by the logging roads and typically have many possible violations related to the type of service they do. Also make sure you have properly secured the load. A couple of straps over a forty thousand pound load of hardwood is guaranteed to get you a securement ticket.
