Thats what I love about this site. If you can ignore the people who never have anything good to say, you find people like JimmyBones and IronPony who tell you what you need to know. If I can find a way to pay the bills for the 5 or 6 week CDL training I will be good to go.

Enjoying, or even just being comfortable with your situation goes a long way towards success in this job.

Honestly I the training part of the job is the part I am worried about the most. Spending months with someone I do not know in a closet. I am sure I will be ok, but its the part I worry the most about anyway.
-
Not really much to worry about. Most trainers are professionals, but if not, your FM got your back.

I got a call from Central Refrigerated today, and I'm supposed to leave next week(7/15/13) for my CDL training. After reading this thread, I immediately applied at Prime Inc, and will be talking to a recruiter tomorrow morning. I've been unemployed for a while, broke as a joke, and I like the fact that they pay for your food expenses while you're training to get your CDL. Also, if I stay with Prime for a year, I won't have to worry about the cost of the CDL training, which is expensive. My recruiter from Central told me that if I stay with them for a year, I would have to pay half, and will deduct $28 from my paychecks for a whole year. Also, the paid training at Central is much lower. They start you out at $375 per week, and ends at $450 by week 5. Most importantly, I've heard good things about the training.
Prime definitely looks like the better choice. Thanks for sharing your experience Jimmy.Last edited: Jul 10, 2013

Yeah, I'm here in Salt Lake just completed orientation and waiting for my trainer to get he's a pretty cool dude got the chance to chat with him for awhile. Lunch and Dinner is paid for.
BigJayDragon Thanks this. -
Can you let me know what encompasses the physical test that they give you in orientation? How long are you out on the road with a trainer before you go on your own? Thanks for the info!

The physical is basically the same as a standard DOT physical , plus BMI if necessary, and sleep study if needed.
Trainer time is mileage based, and depends on seat class- which is experience based.BigJayDragon Thanks this.
