Okay just signed on to the load board for the 1st time and just wondering, Are the prices listed with the load before or after the 65%?

 

It is my understanding they are before. You need to compute the 65% rate.

 

The load board price is before the 65% and FSC. If there is a "Y" on the load board by the price, the accessorials are broken out on the details page. That will be FSC and lumper fees or stop fees. The lumpers are 100% but stop fees and linehaul are 65%. Also, if you have to travel a toll road, talk the agent into breaking the toll amount out of the linehaul so you get 100% reimbursement of your tolls. Very few will do it if you do not push the matter. They will say the customer does not allow it or that Landstar does not allow it. However, Landstar does not prevent it and the customer could care less as they are getting the dollar amount they quoted for the load and have no clue how much you are being paid for fuel or linehaul. The only reason an agent balks at doing this is because it cuts their revenue. However, the cut is miniscule in relation to how much you are out for the toll you have to pay. I know because I have had agents who will break it out and those who don't. If they break it out you MUST turn in the toll receipt with your paperwork.

 

Just finished up orientation in Reno. I think I'm more confused now than before I went. LOL. Lots of information to soak up in a very short time.

 

Just be sure to keep in close contact with your BCO Advisor. He or She will walk you through everything you need to know. You will be surprised at how fast you will get up to speed. Also, do not be afraid to ask another BCO. We are a community out here and look out for one another.

 

Something to remember or find out now. There are many different contracts in The Landstar system. Not to mention folks with their own trailer, or on the platform side that have more than 5 axles (you get 1% more for every axle over 5).Therefore it is always up to you to figure out your cut. All numbers are gross.

Does Landstar have a drop yard in the Kansas City area or a place to park your rig and trailer? Thanks

 

I stayed a number of times at the petro off I70 in oak grove just east of KC. If you park out beyond the fuel islands in the back nobody ever seems to notice. If you drop your trailer only for a night or 2 I doubt it would become an issue.
