No matter whom you choose just make sure it's the best for you and your family and don't believe everything the recruiters tell you . Just take your time and do what is right for you not what everyone else says to.
mastrassassin Thanks this. -
dv8, another 'expert' who has never actually worked for a trucking company as a driver.

The 'veterans' push by certain companies is just a means to easily fill some empty seats, temporarily.
If they could fill the seats with mexican illegal aliens, they'd be giving away free burritos, and equipping all the trucks with deedlee balls.
The companies and recruiters target recruiting to get a warm body in the seat for a few years, long enough to cover the cost of hiring and recruiting for that warm body.
They don't care about 'veterans'. except hiring a recent vet means the warm body is more likely to be drug free, in reasonably good health, and probably doesn't have a string of felonies.
If you've been living in a tent you probably will be a little happier in modern truck, except you can't usually get away with fragging your dispatcher, even though they often deserve it. -
I am working on KAF myself..mastrassassin Thanks this.

mastrassasin, apparently this forum requires me to send 7 (replies) before I can send a private message. This will be my seventh so now I should be able to reply to your PM.

Not sure where you get your information...I work for a carrier who is indeed expanding. If you take a look at the industry as a whole, you will see that it is expanding as well; therefore, my company is not alone.
Important that you do your research on the company before hiring on. There are a few options of military friendly companies. The US Dept of Veterans Affairs accepts select military friendly companies to be part of their apprenticeship program.
Please remember to take an overall look at the company as well to make sure that when your GI Bill benefits stop paying (typically after the 1st year) that you will still be happy. This is a big commitment, and going after any company with the GI benefits and not considering the merits of that company may leave you unhappy with your schedule, and your family equally unhappy with your new choice.
Read all the forums you can find, eliminate the extremists both for and against each company to limit your choices. Then call the 800 numbers for those choices. Consider how you are treated by the recruiting staff, and be sure to ask them what their backgrounds are (how long have they worked there, are they commission-based, do they have any trucking experience, etc.) so that they have to answer as many questions as they ask. YOU are in charge of this process, as the economy has picked up and there is a shortage of drivers; if you have a good record (criminal and MVR, work record) then you WILL get hired. Military experience is icing on the cake. If you don't feel good about the recruiter then keep calling until you find one who is genuine.mastrassassin Thanks this. -
Seriously ? Some megacarriers may expand as they put good private fleet drivers out of work to gain a dedicated account but ....http://www.ccjdigital.com/trucking-sheds-3500-jobs-in-june/#sthash.UzYEJXgl.dpuf

This. Why is Roehl two years? Do you still get the GI pay after the first year?
