Aldough i love the 359/379 Pete's(in fact i think they are the best looking trucks out there) ,if i was to do a lot off miles i would buy an aero model.
Nowadays there are some nice looking aero's out there.
If you feel you cannot live without the old style "brick" model, then i would sugges that you make it as slick as possible.
Every dollar saved goes straight to your pocket.
And even if the MPG-gain is small, over the lifetime off a truck those small amounts will add up

If you plan on keeping the truck a longtime, buy an EPA 10.
    DEF,EGR and DPF.
That way you can use it a very longtime to run Cali and they have better MPG then EPA 07 (the EPA 07 have a far greater level off EGR)

I don't think it makes any difference. In fact I bet an "aero" truck gets worse mileage....for example, what's the point of having that big tall bunk in front of a load of steel?

I will be going with a midroof either way. Just curios if a 386 or t660 would be much of an improvement mpg wise over w900 or 389

Look at the flatbed companies out there on the road that have been in the flatbed business for years. Most use mid-roof/raised roof or flat top. Fuel milage plays a major role in those companies decisions.

i started back on the road 2 years ago in a 95 t600 with a d60 and that POS 10 speed. low 6's. all western mountains. only east coast trip was bobtail to maine for a fuel tanker back to home.

next was an 05 w9. isx 450, 18 sp. got low 5's. and it made occasional east coast trips where it got mid 5's.

    next was a 09 389. isx 475. 18 sp. it also got low 5's.

    i'm now in a 09 t660 with isx 450. 13 sp. and again, low 5's.

all 3 have the same rear ends. 3:55 i beleive. all 3 run at the same rpms.

on the east i can get mid 5's.

weight and speed don't seem to matter. unless it's a really light load or empty. anything over 10,000 pounds and my fuel economy difference is so small i almopst don't notice any difference.

i'd kill to have a 7 mpg truck. but at this point. i'd settle just to hit 6.

But you look cool in a flattop. I wouldn't mind having one if I was doing some kind of local/regional gig where I slept at home more than in the truck.

Un-MBN it and 6NZ it! Plenty of info in the garage section to get you going.
