For an inverter of 1500 watts or more, that pretty much requires hard wiring to the batteries, right? If so, then no go for me. The 12v Koolatron cooler is outstanding. Only thing I really require right now to be totally self sufficient and avoid truck stop "idle heads" is something to make hot water for my coffee and oatmeal, and it would be really nice to be able to steam, simmer, or fry again...

Get the Burton butane stove. It comes in a plastic case with a handle. I've been cooking and eating fresh in the truck for several years without a fridge or microwave.

Yeah, my coffee addiction added up when I went with DH for a few weeks. Truckstop coffee can be expensive and I can't make myself drink the freeze-dried stuff just yet. Sheesh, going from Starbucks/Caribou coffee to Folgers freeze-dried must be like going from sleeping on a cloud to sleeping on a rock...

.... I've slept on rocks before. You get tired enough, they're pretty comfortable.

Kind of like Folger's instant coffee. You get Jonesing enough for your coffee, Folger's tastes pretty good. Then there's the in between option, get Starbuck's instant (still about a buck a cup)...

I may break down and try the Starbucks, first. Break in my taste buds as it were. Thanks for the idea.

Okay folks... it's summertime!!! Go to Walmart, buy a cheap barbi. Strap the sucker down to your catwalk, and slow down enough to grill a steak or dogs on your travels!!!

    Tools for lunchbox cooker:
    remote thermometer with temperature alarm
    glass loaf pan

Plop meat in glass pan (pork tenderloin, beef roast, even ground meat loaf). Insert thermometer. Set desired temperature minus 10 degrees. Plug in until alarm goes off, let sit until ready to eat, meat temp will continue to climb while sitting.

I use paper towels to soak up leftover grease, then use cleaning wipes to "wash" the pan. much less messy than a tin pan tilting goo in my trash!

The thermometer I found at Walmart, the right size pan at Target.

For easy clean up you can use oven bags or crock pot bags too, without the tin or glass pan. On the hinge side either roll up the extra to close lid or lay it across the open area and close lid... Either way works :)

Good idea on the thermometer... Never thought of that!
