I have been running a trucking company for 2 months now and my DOT Audit is coming soon. i have all the permits i need dot#, mc#, TID#, IFTA, permits etc.
I have 1 driver that runs out of state i have him listed in a consortium drug testing and a pre employment drug test.

When the dot comes to audit what will they check for?
    i know they will check
    -my truck maintenance
    -driver qualification
    -drug test
    -accident reports
    -log books

what else does the dot check i need a list of what the dot needs

    thank you in advance

Each state is a little different and some rely on Federal DOT auditors. The DOT enforces 16 "automatic audit failures," but it looks like you have covered the most important audit sections. For a detailed listing, check out the Safety Audit Guide at part380.com.

    All the best.

Usually the DOT sends you an e-mail with a checklist of everything they're looking for. Besides what you named make sure you have your BOC-3 and MCS-90 (Financial Responsibility form -- can get this from your insurance company).

Make sure that you have supporting documents for the logs (fuel receipts, BOL's, etc etc)

Make sure that besides the drug test results, you have the contract for the Consortium your driver is part of. I don't think you've been in business long enough for the auditor to ask for the numbers from the random pool but it wouldn't hurt to have them just in case.

For your truck (and trailer if you have one as well) make sure you have the registration, annual inspection, and lease agreements (if needed).

For your vehicle maintenance stuff make sure that you have the receipts.

I know that I've posted a more comprehensive list than this in another post so just search for it on here.

Being a safety audit, it shouldn't take more than 2-3 hours. The audit is fairly easy to pass and as long as you have this stuff you'll be fine!

If you dont mind to do it how about updating us on the results. That could be some very useful information to others here.
