Simple question, would you stay with a dispatcher who consistently books you for less than what you need/want? If not, then you don't have to worry about that...agreed?

trees Thanks this.

That's exactly what it comes down, as well as time, if you trust your dispatcher to know what you want, and his ability to get it for you, it CAN be, not WILL be, but it can be more profitable in the end run as you are concentrating on driving, you limit your downtime.
Now on the other hand, a bad dispatcher is just that, he creates more trouble than he solves, but then, you wouldn't be staying with him either.dannythetrucker Thanks this. -
Members,
I also am considering starting a dispatch service. I was let go by my last company, and signed a non-compete contract ( don't ever
do that ).I now have to work out of the house because of location and other reasons. I took a online Broker/Agent coarse, but with no experience or book of customers, no one is willing to hire you. I've been in sales and treated my builders and other customer in a very honest way. Actually lost some sales because of that and from what I've read in this thread is that most of the
drivers really don't like brokers in the first place. All I'm trying to do is start a small dispatch service. I want to treat the drivers fair. Not trying to get rich or screw anyone over, just trying to make a living before I have to retire. If anyone can help me get started or tell me who to contact it would be greatly appreciated.
Tealtransport,
glad to read that your business is doing well
Thanks,

Mike,
I just went through a back surgery on june 26th and the driver I have actually took almost 2 weeks off waiting for me to heal enough. I treat my drivers good I keep them them rolling. Put an ad on craigslist and see if you can pick up a driver or so there. I would like to have 3 to 4 more drivers myself. Good Luck -
Scott,
Thanks for the response, but I really am green at this. I really need to talk with someone that's is or has been a dispatcher. Need to learn more. I don't feel ready enough to start calling or advertising yet. I still have hundreds of questions to ask first. Haven't gotten anything set up yet, like I said, I just starting out of the gate.
Hope your back surgery came out OK and you are healing well.

Hello,
I'm also looking into becoming an independent agent but would love more information about being an independent dispatcher and what I need to get started.
I would appreciate any advice and/or direction!!
Thanks

Todd,
I'm still new at the dispatcher service myself, but give me a call and I'll help all I can.
