I would like to hear from Melton drivers only about your experience with running into Canada and doing over dimensional loads? Are these good ways to receive more pay, what do like/dislike about it if you've done them? Just trying to get a good grip on things before making a decision to go with a company. Thanks in advance!

We don't really do enough of then to base your decision to come here Or not on od or Canada loads. However, Canada loads are paid 3 cents a mile more loaded in Canada... bad parts I've heard from other drivers are mainly waiting for loads back to US.

Od loads are paid 6 cents more per loaded mile, but you don't get them very often

    BDJ Thanks this.

If you're a student right now I'd say go with Melton or Roehl for flatbed. I dog have any experience with Melton but have heard good things from their drivers. I worked for roehl for a while. Did a few OD loads here and there.

Then after a year of experience you can come to Lonestar. You'll do a lot of OD loads and if you can go to Canada you're looking at 2,000+ mile loads going in and then deadheading out 2,000+ miles to get a load sometimes. As far as I know we hardly being anything back to the US.

Just some info to try to help with your decision. Flatbed work is challenging but fun.

Is it just for loads coming out of Canada that pay more? Or do the loads going to Canada pay more also? I'm in Laredo. Supposed to be loading tomorrow somewhere going somewhere in Canada.

You get .03 a mile for all loaded miles in Canada. In and out. Any deadhead in Canada is normal
