I hear ya, man. I worked in foodservice/grocery for 7 years and I loved it until my job was moved out of state. Then I got into an LTL job for one of the "top 5" LTL carriers and I thought I was going to be making big bucks running linehaul, etc.. Turns out my typical day would be starting at 6pm working on the dock or in the hostler then I'd get sent home at 10pm because there's no runs, plenty of runs for outside carriers, none for our own drivers (WTF) I stuck it out for 8 months and couldn't take it any longer.. Went back into foodservice for MBM and I'm getting plenty of work. I know you asked about how much SoCal MBM drivers make, and I can honestly say I have no idea how the pay is down there.. What I can tell you is I'm up north and I make 95% of full scale (drivers with 6 months - 1 year of seniority fall in this bracket); that's 95% of .40/mile, .0269/case and 3.00/stop and I grossed $29xx the last (two week) pay period, $32xx the period before that. That's in a 5 day 60-65 hr workweek, and I'm home five nights per week. That's probably more hours than a typical MBM driver works, but I like working as many hours as legally possible.

That's really great money..i wish i could get on at our location here that has liftgates. But I have a ticket and they won't hire me. Keep us posted on your journey with MBM! Lots of great info here

Wow!! Thanks for the info. Yeah I've been with the top 1-2 ltl company for 9years and driving for them local p&d for 7 1/2years. And its brutal with this economy and the way they set up the work. Almost the top drivers only get the real overtime or the kiss ###'s lol. And I do need to make a living I don't mind physical labor. Do you work at a lift gate Mbm?? How is the insurance??? Is it possible to finish you're route earlier than 12-13 hours ? Since you get paid same based on what you wrote?? Any extra info would be greatly appreciated as its a big decision to jump from where I'm at lol. But money is always a good motivator in my eyes. I'm 29 and physically fit so I doubt that should be a problem in my eyes

Brtecson thanks for the info, do they really have runs where your home every night? That's pretty sweet man, did u choose that run or was it offered to u, just trying to gather as much info as I can, before I go on and apply with MBM.... Thanks

I've never made more than $43k......so, $50k would be a privelege, that to me is what I call good money.... sure, $60k, $63k or $70K would be really nice....but am getting tired of chasing the rainbow..........where do I apply?

Any top ltl trucking company. Ups freight, FedEx freight, Conway, old dominion, central. Some of those pay less than ups/FedEx but get more overtime. Most to all should make 48-52k a year. Not sure how much experience you have. That's considering you're topped out. All start at 18 I think if at least 2years experience. All top out between $24-$26 an hour. Required to have all endorsements with your class A license and clean record to maybe 1 ticket.

Brtecson will know more but this is what I do know. Yes they have 1 day runs where you're home every night. There are lots of those around here. And realistically you won't spend more than 1 maybe 2 nights out per week. You will start out on the extra board running wild basically, covering everyone else's route. And eventually you will get your own route when you put enough time in. I think it takes about a year on extra board. You can make more money on extra board, and will probably be off just enough to get your 10 hour breaks and 34 hour resets at home. Then go right back to work. Being on extra board you will learn what routes are good and what areas you like and what you don't like.. This will give you a good idea on what routes to bid on when it's time to bid on your own route.prefontaine Thanks this.
