It has nothing to do with perspective...its the jobs that are different...hauling livestock, hauling steel, hauling equipment...each has their own requirements, and they are different.

You can drive whenever you want, day or night...I can't.

You can pass through a major city whenever you want...I can't.

And I don't really like hauling flatbed or stepdeck freight and I fricken HATE swingin doors...so my only choice is to get out.

I'm not complaining about Maverick...they have been pretty good (Schneider paid us better)...I'm complaining about the dumb@&$ rulemakers ruining my ability to make a decent wage.

From what I could tell...Steve Williams ain't too crazy about these rules himself...he knows we'll make less money, and so will he.

Yeah he was pretty vocal in the hearing with Congress... Although it obviously hasn't done any good yet. But I am watching closely, because they really are crawling up Anne Ferro's butt about the crap she's doing at FMCSA. They obviously weren't happy with her.

Things could turn around all of a sudden... I'd hang on a bit longer and watch.

I can't just up and quit...I have to have a job that will support my family, and I wouldn't do that to Maverick even if I could.

I have a line on a job that is supposed to be opening up about the first of September...driving a truck, mostly on site, company paid medical for the whole family, etc...a really good job, $22/hour kind of good...no guarantees I'll get it...but I have some inside pull...if it gets offered....I'M GONE!...after the 2 weeks notice.

I'm not just gonna trade one set of headaches for another and switch trucking companies, I turned down a job driving for Walmart today...I want out of OTR altogether.

Don't know why I even went to the trouble of submitting that application to Walmart...it was a knee jerk reaction I guess...but after I submitted it I realized that wouldn't be much better, and when they called today I told them that I had decided I didn't want another OTR job.

I'll stay where I'm at and do the best I can until I find a way out...whether it takes 2 months or 2 years...I will get out.

I want to add this...for those of you who are doing OK with the new rules.

I'm happy for you...I really am...and don't let my ranting affect how you view your job, that's not my intention at all...the new rules probably do fit OK with most aspects of trucking, especially for the new guys...its naturally gonna be easier for the newbies to adjust to this.

I'm just blowing off steam...something I have to do once in a while to maintain my sanity...its a well established fact that I'm a hothead with a very low tolerance for BS.

I've said my piece now...and will stay out of this discussion from here on because I don't want to be a negative influence on anybody that might make it just fine in todays trucking world... it just ain't gonna work for me...but that don't mean it won't work for you.

This half hour thing is working so well for me that I have proactively implemented an additional half hour break. This is the Maverick way, when it comes to safety if one is good two are better. Oh, gotta go, it's nap time again!

    this is just plain stupid

I haven't been to Laurinburg in about 2 years...so this is all hearsay...but I was told that Bruce was offered a training position in Little Rock when they moved the training there but he did not accept it...so I'm guessing he's no longer with us, I hate to see him go...great guy IMO...you are talking about Bruce Nelson right? There were 2 guys there named Bruce...

Tim....I thought he left a few years ago...but don't know that for sure either...and I may be thinking of someone else, I'm terrible with names... I know Bruce well but I'm a little unsure about a Tim to be honest.

The 3 I remember best from the Schneider days are....Bruce, Joe, and that older fellow they always called by his rank (Master Chief), I don't think I ever knew his name...kind of a salty old cuss he was.

Yes, Bruce Nelson. I agree, he was an awesome guy. I had a pick up in Darlington a few weeks ago and thought about riding up to laurinburg to see the old guys. Tim's last name was Sieverson I believe. I left Moore before they got the contract and had heard that he was hired by them.
