i know your supposed to stop at every open scale when hauling wide. and naturally you wouldn't stop at a closed scale.
but in cali. they're open and when the parking lot is full they close. untill a spot opens then they're open again.
so, do you still stop if the closed is up?
this is my first rodeo with a wide load. (done long and heavy, never wide) and my first permit load in cali.
wide loads and cali scales

If it is closed I always just zipped by. Last thing they want is an o/d load sitting parked waiting to enter.
-
that would make sense. but i've seen em closed sometimes when the ramp is empty. but the parking lot is full. i'm guessing for inspections.
-
Yea if they are closed you just go by as normal. I pulled a lot of o/d in and out of Cali. If sign said open I went in if closed for whatever reason I went on by.
snowwy Thanks this. -
thank uuuuu

"closed"-------go. "Open"------stop.

i don't trust cali. and i'm certainly not about to donate to there bankruptcy.
i've noticed they once had 2 permit offices. north and south. to which they consolidated into one north office.
and now they have clean truck centers. -
Yup if its closed hammer down I've been 13' wide in cali the sign said open when I passed it but Than turned to Closed right before my escort passed the sign he said on the CB closed hammer down and no one chased my ### down for it ..... a lot of times in Cali if I see the ramp start to back up ill kind of slow down a bit to see if the sign will change to keep me from going into the scale
