Well a day sooner than expected but I do back up my statements. Abco along with R&L Carriers both have shut the trucks down while sitting at a loading dock as they were out of hours. The company shut the trucks down and then notified the shipper that they can be towed if they must. The shipper has them towed and the bill is to the carrier.

Call up Pace Dairy in Crawfordsville and verify. Have a good one there good buddy.:bootyshake::biggrin_25514:

I guess my question would be, why? I mean IF (and we never are) but IF a truck of mine was in that situation, why not just relieve the driver of all duties a couple of minutes before their clock is up and unhook the trailer, have the driver bobtail to nearest TS or Motel?

When they get the trailer unloaded/loaded, pull it off to the side. What am I missing?

HaHa I was drinkin but I know what I know as I have seen it done while loading there and my part timer is in the shipping department and loads trucks. He personally has called the carriers to tell them the truck is not able to sit at the dock just because they choose to shut it down. The carrier can set the parameter and re-start the truck to allow it to be parked on the shippers property but yet they choose to allow it to be towed to the pilot. They prefer paying a tow bill then have a log violation. Stupid if you ask me. I would allow the truck to "re-start" and move over off to the side and park.

Oh well, I know what I state is fact and I can pm the number to Pace to have my info verified. :biggrin_25522:

Honestly I have no idea what goes through the carriers head on this. I do know Pace is very strict as they will not be accomadating to the truck. They don't get in too big a hurry and if a truck must sit there for hours so be it BUT AS SOON as they want you moved you better get moved or else. Also Pace does not shuttle trailers around for the carrier. So IF a guy was to go to the truckstop or motel at any given time he would have to go move the trailer out of there.

I gotcha, still makes no sense to me on the carriers end, if I had my tow bill go up 4 fold at the end of the month I would be looking for some answers, or somebody's ###!

Volvo, I too thought that was bs until a few weeks back I was talking with a driver who's logs do that to his truck.

I believe a few months back when I was at roehl I called you a liar on it back when we were discussing eobrs and all. I now know that it's truth and believe its just plain crazy. The driver I talked to said his doesn't shut off, but it beeps a lot and it limits him to 5mph.

Oh yeah! Our EOBR's are connected to an ejection seat (driver's side) and if you go into violation it ejects you right out of the truck! Some of these old wives fables are hilarious.

Don't you anti-EOBR guys ever get tired of talking about EOBR'S? LOL!
