Hey guys, I've been thinking about it all day. Perhaps I shouldn't be so harsh to judge. Eric, the manager at the Masury terminal seems like he has an awful lot on his plate. Seems like he is the only one doing anything there. He was cleaning out 2 trucks while I was there. We all know what that means. He was very accomidating with the securement that I needed. The guys going thru orientation bombarded me with questions lol. Which was cool. Wish I could have hung around a bit longer but I have bills to pay. I guess they need to hire someone to come in and offer these drivers a lesson on cleaning up after themselves...I will leave it at that

    Hey Noggin and Azcannon
I want to say thank you for the thread and your posts. They have been very informative. I recently graduated CDL school, and wanted to do flatbed or tanker to start my career. After doing some research on the different companies and reading your posts i have decided to go with Melton. My recruiter was great, very helpful and straight fwd(she didnt sugar coat the bad and highlighted the good) and answered all of my questions promptly. I liked Melton's reputation for being a great company that's also very military friendly. The fact that as a prior Marine I can use the rest of my GIBILL for the first year was a great plus.
With that being said i was wondering if you guys as Melton drivers can answer some of my questions?
    1) avg miles and pay i would get a week as a new driver
    2) What does the road test consist of, meaning do you just drive (see how you handle the truck, traffic, turns, and shifting)or is it like DPS to include where you back up, and parallel park? And is this before your out with a trainer or after?
    3) I live in Houston, TX are there any terminals near me and if not hows the getting home time like?

Any info will be greatly appreciated. Hope to see ya on the road soon

Your class was over 160 hours right?

Miles are there. It will vary but you will average usually around 2200. Some weeks will be more, some less.

You will most likely do your training in Sunnyvale. The road test there is just a couple miles around the neighborhood. Then you will back up in the yard after everyone is done. Thats about it.

Where in houston do you live? Over off wallisville there is a drop yard you can leave your trailer at, or your truck also if you don't have a place for your truck at home.

Yes my class was over 160 hours. I just got the call that i will be going to Tulsa next week. I live just south of Houston near LaPorte and thats why i was asking if there were any terminals near me, but a drop yard will help out as well

Seabrook!?!?! Thats crazy that you live that close to each other lol talk about coincidence!! Hey Noggin do you mentor as well and can i request you as a mentor once i am done with orientation. That would be great because i could learn alot from you about Melton, flatbedding, where to store my trailer when home and of course we both love MLB lol!!!!

I'm not a mentor, no. I am a recruiter tho, if you wanna throw my truck number on your application :biggrin_255::biggrin_25520::biggrin_25522:

When you get your post count you can send me your number. I have quite a few guys on here that call me for help on things. Cannon still does every now and again, couple guys from other threads too. I may not know a lot, but I think I'm pretty helpful with what I do know.

The green arrow in this map is the gate at the place where you can drop your trailer...WW Roland yard. You go East on Wallisville from 610 to the first light, Mesa. Map says Gellhorn, but the street signal has a sign saying Mesa. Turn right, keep to the left (LKQ receiving is to the right) then go to lane 3, the drop lot lane. Some drivers leave their trucks there too, I just drop my trailer and park my truck at my house.

i am surprised that there isnt a drop yard closer to us. I thought there would be one near LaPorte, Pasadena, or in the Galveston County area. Either way cant complain , that yard isnt too far away from my house. Thanks again Noggin.
