oh ok, i actually got more clarification from krashdragon in a private message...she just took hers, and she said you take the first two tests (permit test, combinations) and then once you pass those you then come back and take three tests (air brakes, pre trip, general knowledge)
i been reading online and texas has been making their rules more confusing and harder all the time...i mean i understand why, but at least have some clear cut instructions as to what to do...because not even the dps people could give me any direction

Ahh that's right, I forgot about the basic permit test. So you were correct, there are actually 5 written tests. Glad you got some clarification on it... Now if you can just find someone at the DPS who has that same knowledge...
Have fun with that one

i feel relieved now, i actually found someone "knowledgeable" at dps in san antonio...he pulled up my driver information and told me the first two tests i took were "commercial rules" (this test satisfies the "permit test" requirement) and combinations, he said once you pass both of those they will allow me to take the tests on air brakes, pre trip, and general knowledge...so he pretty much confirmed everything krashdragon told me
futuretruckertx Thanks this. -
