When I am in my groove of driving without any drowsiness and so close to home, why would it be best to park. No at 4:15 AM I do not go walking around. This is a safety hazard well before allowing me to keep driving and going home. Have you ever tried to find parking in a truckstop at 4:15 in the morning just so you could go walk around for 30 minutes?

    Maybe its good you retired.

I guess if you break down at that hour you should just stay in the truck and call 911 if you feel it's unsafe to get out.

You are just digging for excuses to justify the required break. Lets be realistic.

I've already said, all this hand-wringing over the 30 minute break and new 34 hr restart is much to do about nuttin'. Oh yeah, you can find a few cases here and there where a driver post something here about how he was horribly affected by these revised regs, but in truth, it's isolated and inconsequential within the whole scheme of things.

But hey, go right ahead and keep building those strawmen so you can burn 'em down and look righteously indignant doing it ;-)

No , I'm saying if you can't handle stopping for a 30 minute break how can you handle other delays longer than 30 minutes? You were wiped out after less than 10 hours.

You're like a broken record with your bragging about how much money you make and how little time you work. I'm not buying it.

So you're an O/O, and are paid a certain amount per load hauled? Mileage isn't a part of the formula? You're then working off a percentage right? You must pay expenses before paying yourself, so you're paying yourself (employee) a percentage of what is paid to the truck, correct? Even with that you must calculate how much it costs you per mile to haul that load. So miles, miles, miles is still part of your equation.

Not everyone can afford to buy a rig and be an O/O. I'm a company driver, and with the current economy, I'm not in a position, and do not have $100k + to invest. I am home every weekend, and a couple of nights per week. While yes you can bring home $2k to the table, that may not be so much if you have a break-down. Company drivers don't have to worry about that expense. Cheap freight can hurt you too. What do you do when you can't find anything that meets your specs, sit and wait or haul it? Sitting can hurt your bottom line, right? Hauling cheap can hurt too right?

Company drivers are doing what they can to make a paycheck. They don't have the control over things like O/Os, but again not everyone wants or has the finances to be an O/O. Do you lease on to anyone, or are you running on your own authority? Makes a big difference too..
