I start orientation with Earl Henderson tomorrow. Checked into the motel in Caseyville, IL, this afternoon. They flew me here, which was so much nicer than the Greyhound. Also, they don't make you share a motel room, so that's nice too.

From what I understand, tomorrow is the usual orientation stuff...physical, road test, drug test, paperwork, etc. It's three days long. I'll try to post updates every evening.

    Wish me luck.

i went to their orientation. failed the road test. look out for that truck they make you road test in. it's very very shaky.

the road test will consist of driving down the street, getting onto the freeway towards st louis, going into a truck stop, completing an alley dock and a straight back, getting back on the freeway, and going back to the yard. it's in a 53' reefer.

tomorrrow you'll do a DOT physical, hernia check (you get your balls grabbed yay!) , drug test, paperwork, listen to some presentations...

even though you filled out an app online, they'll make you do a paper application from memory to see if you lied on your online app. get your full employment and unemployment history for the past 10 years. if they notice anything they don't like, you get grilled down by bill beaty the safety driector in a separate room...and then meet the hiring manager. they're good guys but they're very serious about what they do

wednesday you'll have a company BBQ. hella good food.

at some point, you'll have a rep from Legal Shield come in and try to con you out of 20 bucks a month. he'll try to scare you with accident fatality stories and tell you why you need Legal Shield. It's a ponzi scam and i don't know how the hell they got a contract with Earl Henderson. I didn't sign up and the guy tried to basically coerce me into signing up for it.

I hope you get the job. The hotel in caseyville is nice. say whats up to the little indian girl who works at the desk, she will let you make free long distance phone calls if your cell phone is broken :)

earl henderson is a good company man, you'll get a lot of beer out of colorado... get your hazmat so you can haul dr. pepper :)

Yeah, sorry about the lack of update. It's been pretty hectic. We all got our trucks today, except for me and one other guy. They're supposed to be here tomorrow. I met my fleet manager today and got my ComData card.

The trucks are all very nice. They have Cascadias and KW T660s. I saw a couple of Petes, but they were owner/operators.

If you're interested in teaming, they have a lot of dedicated drop & hooks (Kingman to STL, Fontana to Dallas, etc.) Everyone I've talked to said they run the teams really hard, which can be both good and bad, I guess.

You get a real small-company feel. They only have one terminal and about 400 trucks. Trucks and trailers seem to be in really good shape.

So far, I really like it here and have a good feeling about this company. All the drivers I talked to have been here for a few years and they all said it was a really good company. We'll see how it goes.

I called them today just to ask a few things. They said some trucks have only one bunk. Did you see many low roof trucks? Did you take any physical aptitude test like CRT test or like lifting 75 lbs off the floor? Did they tell you their trucks are governed at 62 mph? :biggrin_2552: I would like to know how fast those trucks go. I just can't live in a truck going 62 mph... They told me they have applied for Prepass... so far they have only EZpass (that is good only for tools not scales). Yes, their equipment seems very good, well maintained and their scores on the FMCSA site look good too. Did they tell you what their shutdown policy and chain policy is? Are you going to run 48 states? Good luck man! And keep us posted when you can. And be safe too! :biggrin_25519:

The physical aptitude test was pretty simple. Get in and out of the truck ten times. Lift a milk crate with 50lbs, walk 20 feet, turn around and set it down. Repeat five times. That's about it. They don't attach a heart monitor or anything like that.

They said the trucks are governed at 65, but maybe it's 62. I didn't go above 55 on the road test, so I can't verify that yet.

The lack of Pre-Pass is kind of annoying, actually. You can sign up for it at the terminal (which I did), but you have to pay for it yourself. $18 a month. That kinda sucks, but I'd still rather pay than go without it. They have EZ-pass and Pike Pass for tolls. They reimburse you for KS. I don't know about FL.

For shutdown and chain policy, they gave us the whole "captain of the ship" thing. They said as long as you don't shutdown when it's drizzling or something ridiculous like that, you're fine. One of the guys even said if you have to chain up, just shut down instead.

I didn't see any low-roof trucks but those KWs are pretty small. I'd be fine with it solo, but I wouldn't want to team in one.

Thank you tustultuses... Yes... those KW are really small... even the ones with double bunks. I was living very comfortably in a Freightliner Cascadia with two beds and lots of room... I can't see myself in a smaller truck now... Once you start rolling, please let us know how fast the truck goes... Best of luck to you man. Be safe out there...

figured i would check here before starting a new thread. What are these "great" benefits that the company offers? I was told you get 6 major holidays off a year? I have talked to a few guys and it looks like they run a lot of west and back to st louis.. so how much east do these guys do? How well do they equip company trucks.. fridge, power inverter, o/o gauge package or at least a drive air gauge?
