Excuse my ignorance on this subject , but I have questions about how to properly fill out the recap section in my logbook . All my previous driving jobs fell under the "short haul rule ". Under the new hos final rule , does the recap save from 34 hour restart if you don't reach 70 in 8 days? Furthermore , when you do have to take a 34 , do you still have to write down your hours for the past 7/8 days on the recap or start from 0 since you get a new 70 ? Thanks in advance .

When you take the reset it goes to 0 hours when you start out again.

Filling out the recap is optional.

Like before, a reset is not required.

After a reset you would start from 0.

Yes what he said. Out of all the times I been DOTed I had 1 time mentioned the recaps by the DOT Officer, he just said I should do the recaps.

When I reset when I was on paper and came back to work, I wrote "r.s." on the full day where my reset occurred, drew a line through everything prior (didn't bother with writing in the previous days in the recap) and nobody seemed to have a problem with it.

you still need a piece of paper for each day even during the reset
showing off duty for at least 34 hour hours
now including 2 periods off from 1-5 am
then when filling in hours used say

    7/11 6.5
    7/12 7.5 14
    7/13 9.25 23.25
    7/14 10.25 33.50
    7/15 4.75 38.25
    7/16 10.00 48.25
    7/17 8.25 56.50
    7/18 8.75 65.25
    7/19 0.0 65.25
    7/20 6.5 6.5
