I have 6 months experience. As an OTR driver, but my company is only giving me enough work to go 300-400 miles a day. Which at .275 a mile doesn't make much. I'm thinking of changing companies, I'm looking at systems transport, and Gordon trucking. I like all the accessory pay at systems, but if the miles aren't there, then I wouldn't get any more of a paycheck. I like the APU's on Gordon trucks, and I've never seen one sit for long. I have a perfect CSA score, and have only been late when I have a breakdown, or get stuck because of the weather. My last check was for $119 the check before that was for $350. I can't afford to work here any more. Which is better, Gordon, or systems? I really need to average closer to $700 a week to pay my bills. I'm in Oregon if that helps. :) thanks guys and gals :)

Depends on what you want to run...flatbed would systems transport and dry van/reefer would be Gordon...

i have a good friend of mine at Gordon been there for 4 yrs and they always for the most part have you preplanned the day before you get to your destination...it happens to him quite a bit...

so just make the best decision for yourself.

System Transport also has APU's. Probably make more money with System and no negative comments that I can find on this forum about them. I did read that most drivers make $50K + annually.

From my personal experience, I would never go back to reefers as long as I can get a good flatbed or tanker job. At least with System, if for some reason you couldn't do flatbedding any longer, it would be easy to transition over the TWT Refrigerated Services or James J. Williams bulk tanker ,since they are all under the same umbrella company (trans-system).

I have been at system transport since November 8th and I have absolutely nothing bad to say about them at all. I have a great dispatcher and have never been hassled about hometime or coming back out sooner. We run all 48 but youll spend a lot of time in Washington and Chicago and texas and cali. all apu equipped fleet. I would recommend them to anyone. Since coming here in November I have gotten on two dedicated runs and am currently hauling a conestoga and have gotten a 5 cent raise per mile since coming here. They are very driver oriented and you are not just a number here. Everyone knows you by name and we are just big enough to get miles but small enough when you go to a terminal or yard people know who you are. Theres not one person ive met that has had a bad thing to say about the company and there isn't one person at the yard that will be rude or mean to you

I have heard nothing but good things about Systems Transport. I have researched the company and made a few calls, but I don't yet have the experience they want to get on with them. I like what I've seen and heard so much that when I get more experience under my belt, they're the first company I'm going for.

I start with Systems next Monday. I'm brand new, right out of school (not their school either). If they think you are what they are looking for, they will give you a chance. I think they are pretty squared away, judging from my interview. I'm looking forward to the opportunity.

Well, I tried to get on with systems, they said I lived too far away from a terminal, so I'd have to move to get hired on there. I just bought my house, so moving isn't an option. And Gordon pays the same as my current company. So I guess I'll just say where I'm at and hope to get more miles. After 5 weeks on the road, I drove ~11,000 dispatched miles. So not too bad I guess. Got back to the yard and there was some 40 trucks sitting waiting for loads. Some have been sitting for days. I go back to work in 4 days, hopefully I get a load quickly, I can't afford to drive the 65 miles home each day, and no layover pay if I'm sitting in the home yard.
