What do you the "other" 14 hours a day?

Hmm.. let's see...plenty to do that you don't particularly want to do..roadside inspections, construction delays, traffic,waiting on a shower, your truck is in the shop, flat tire or tires, broken airline that you fix yourself, fuel filter clogged, check on load , tighten your straps or chains, repin tarps, get lost, make a wrong turn on a country road, you run out of fuel on a hill, lines in scale, a wreck blocking traffic, truck runs hot or low on oil sets off your sensors and turns off your truck in rush hour traffic in the middle lane, etc.,etc.,etc...

 

Wait a minute...... I always thought there was 34 hours in a day...

 

LOL! There is seeing the country and then there is SEEING the country. All you're going to see is a dotted white line and Industrial Parks with lots of dock doors.

I don't mean to dash your hopes but you need to know what you are really getting into.

 

I have lived in a truck before. True you don't have any rent except when you get a motel room. But you really don't get enough exercise and even if you have a fridge and microwave and tv and anything else you might want it gets old.

I did save about 12K in 6 months doing it that way but it gets old. On your days off you want a place to go home to.

If you decide to do it that way you should buy yourself a good mattress first thing.

This is been an ongoing ''fantasy'' for years and years.Ever since the ''sleeper'' got attached to the truck,this has been tried again and again..

I have watched drivers ''live the fantasy''.It ia always short lived and people seem to go back to an Apt or Home...I have tried numerous times to put some reality to these childish fantasies only to see one more failure...

 

i guess it would work if you were at a company that let you pick where you took hometime. Spend the weekend in myrtle beach, go to daytona for a couple days just gotta find a place to park and you could set up home wherever you want

 

That is how it ''used'' to be.I spent many many weekends with my bobtail on Daytona Beach...Not much anymore..They want these NEWBEE'S held hostage to the truck and a piss infested truck stop..Oh thats right,they ''allow'' them an hour to go to WALLY WORLD....ROLMFAO...Big Deal....And no sooner they are done putting these drivers in Trucker Diapers they call them ''professionals''..Something is not adding up...?

 

An hour at wally world? Without having to punch the moose and take a security guard hostage with a BB gun? WHat more could any driver ask for?

With the previous company I spent nearly all my off time doing book work. After two weeks of this I decided I would spend at least half of my off time resting.
I left the company with a pile of paperwork due.
The truck owner would threaten to not pay me if I did not pull over and take pictures of receipts, thus making me late for loads.

With the new company I spend only an hour or two of my rest time doing paperwork.

I'm at McDonalds on the wifi enjoying myself for a change.
