Has anyone heard about swapping the MAP sensor on a Detroit with the MAP sensor from a 350 Chevy? A friend of mine said he saw it in a blog and the swap is supposed to give you 40 more HP. Just curious if anyone can verify or nullify that swap.

don't think I'd ever consider it.

You want more power out of it, then get it programmed correctly. Go talk to Rebel127

I doubt it, a 350 chevy is normally aspirated and has a 1 bar map sensor that will not sense boost. Detroit uses a GM style 3 bar sensor, I don't think that there is any difference between a Detroit sensor and a GM 3 bar sensor, so I don't think you'll get any change.

Hey, I did that to a 1966 Chevy pickup with a 283. Had overhauled it, putting in a small block 400 cam. Ran like a scalded dog.
Seriously tho. I didn't say I had any intention in doing that MAP sensor change, was just curious if it was true. I am happy with my 500 hp.

All it does is shows the ECM that it had 32 pounds of boost all the time! It will make it smoke like the Devil, but won't give it any more horsepower. It's the same thing as a boost harness on a Caterpillar!!

No, it does not. TBI's use a 1 bar sensor, GM makes 3 different sensors for cars that all physically look the same, but they are not. 95% of GM's are normally aspirated and use a 1 bar sensor. They also make 2, & 3 bar sensors. If you use a 1 bar sensor on a turbo diesel, the ECM will read max boost all the time.

I know Detroit uses a GM sensor, but just because it's made by GM, doesn't mean it's the same thing as used on all GM cars. I've heard the more power rumor floating around for years, but every time it's a friend said/did type story. I have never seen it done to talked to anyone who actually did it themselves. It's quite possible that any auto parts store can look up the part # on the sensor and get a replacement for you, but I sure it's different than what's on TBI engines.
